MEDICAL ROOM
Valente, North and Hill all took part in a modified program. Was all fitness work, and ended with all three running laps. Steven looking good and running with pace.

Walters, Hamling and Cam worked together in another modified program during the warm ups that seemed to focus on running. They then joined in certain drills - seemingly the more non contact drills. All then took part in the scratch match.

Hogan partook in all drills and the first three quarters of the scratch match. Didn’t look to be in any pain or have any trouble moving so thinking this was just management.

Coxy was the first casualty coming off during the fourth and pointing to his hip/groin area. Didn’t take any further part in the match but was moving quite freely still after the match. This is what looked most serious but that said still didn’t look overly serious and withdrawing him from the game is likely purely precautionary.

Walters came off next with a noticeable limp. Brad Hill told another person watching it was only cramp so this should be all clear.

Brayshaw came off right at the end with a corky after a collision with Jones I think it was. Got iced up, but no injury.

Conca, Ryan, Sandi, Bennell, Carter, Sturt all trained in the gym.

Great report

Bumped into Crumpets and he said the following:
- Fyfe burst his elbow bursitis; fluid everywhere and now infected
- Cox suffered Osteitis Pubis
- Walters and Brayshaw suffered Ham off the bone and join Blakely with his ham injury
- Conca, Bennell & Sandi all require blood transfusions due to life-threatening anaemia in their calves
- Kersten ended up having his foot amputated

I have had an infected elbow bursitis. It is the most painful injury I have ever had by a country mile!

AND - to cap it off:

- ROSS, seeing all this "right in front of him", committed a ritual hara kiri on the sidelines, giving great effort to his disembowelling process. Crumpets reported that more than half the squad appeared to be delirious with joy, and enthusiastically pitched in to help tidy up the mess.

Any chance he was exaggerating?

Given that the teams had some significant changes at the half way point I'll split my reporting into the two halves and then give a summary at the end.

They played 4x12 minute quarters plus an additional five minutes at the end. Ross and Rock sat up on the balcony observing whilst the others were watching from ground level, organising rotations etc. Seemed like Rock may have been overseeing the match as a few times players were calling out to him.

SCRATCH MATCH - 1ST HALF
The match started with largely a Best 22 (A Team) vs. The Rest (B Team) with a few exceptions which I have to assume was simply to bring a tiny bit of balance into the teams.

The A Team definitely had the ascendancy in the midfield with Darcy, Fyfe, Brayshaw and Tucker going against Meek, Mundy, Crowden and Giro which lead to them getting the ball inside 50 quickly and being able to score quite freely. I thought Tucker did quite well at the centre bounces too. Switta was best on in the first quarter without any doubt. Kicked two first two goals and also passed off a third to Matera who kicked a beautiful snap.

As I said before Brayshaw was instrumental in a brilliant passage of play. A team had the ball and the B team were pressing hard against them when Brad Hill (A) took a mark and Andy was yelling to hold the ball which he did before kicking into the middle of the ground to Wilson. Once the ball was fumbled Andy was very vocal in calling for it and got the tap on from Wilson before running and slotting the goal from 40 or so out.

Interesting the note that for the B team it was Watson who took the kick ins and did well. He has a long kick and wasn't afraid to make the most of the new rules by running straight out of the goal square before putting it onto the boot.

Cam took a mark just before the end of the quarter and slotted it from 35m on a 45 angle.

Scoring dried up in the second quarter with goals coming via Langdon and Cerra. After 3 minutes of play Weber had the players group into threes and do some jumping rolls before yelling at them to get up and restart the game. At the end Walters was very vocal calling on everyone to be up and in position with no hands on hips.

SCRATCH MATCH - 2ND HALF
It seemed they tried to balance the teams a bit more for the second half. Wilson, Pearce, Hamling joined the B team which basically pitted our B22 Forwards against our B22 Defenders whilst Brayshaw swapped with Mundy in the middle among some other changes.

Scoring again opened up this quarter with 7 or so goals. Switta handed off another goal, this time to Taberner who passed off to Hogan who was nearly directly in front and goaled.

Lobb also took a good pack mark amongst 7 or so after a quick centre clearance - This will be a huge area of improvement for us on last year if he replicates this in matches as we have often been lost when getting those quick clearances due to lack of talls/contested marking players.

Last quarter was where Walters and Coxy came off, but don't think either will be major concerns - just little niggles. Hogan also didn't play this quarter. Fyfe had a couple of highlights this quarter including a fantastic one handed mark at full stretch in the air.

SUMMARY + KEY OBSERVATIONS
-
Game wasn't played at huge intensity but was always hotly contested around the ball.
- Players didn't seem too vocal early on with a few exceptions (Walters, Pearce, Brayshaw and Hamling at times) however this seemed to get better in the second half.
- Skills weren't fantastic and conditions were perfect. Did seem to improve though and second efforts were strong.
- Game was fairly attacking - Not overly defensive as the media hacks reported last week.
- Switkowski gets best on for me - 2 Goals, 2 more given off and his defensive work rate was impressive too. He looks primed for a big season.
- Banfield played the first half at half forward and was lively as a defensive forward.
- Good spread of goalkickers with just about all forwards hitting the scoreboard and our mids getting a few as well (And Alex Pearce too!)
- Logue had a good hitout - Marked up against Taberner for a while and was working him well in the contest.
- Taberner clunked a few good pack marks up the ground.
- Cerra definitely bulked up and I'm excited about his prospects this season.

There will be plenty more but I'll let Coley run through the players and add anything I feel significant after.

Lastly, can't speak high enough of Brayshaw. Loving what he is bringing - vocal, good skills and just gives 100% at everything.

Great report, thanks FB. Looking forward to Coley's player report.

Thanks again to all contributors.

Skill quality is a concern as is the injuries/niggles. Luck with player health plays a big part in success and we have had next to none of it last few years, it would be nice to have a relatively fit and healthy squad for most of the year for once.
