Have been a fan of the Polson addition since viewing his highlight reel pre draft, but have to say I am less impressed than others with his progress. This board pilloried the likes of Kerridge over fumbling and composure issues, but are prepared to give young Cam a pass regardless.

No one can fault his effort and dedication and I have seen his skills at their best and worst. Harker has clearly seen some poor marking/skills in recent sessions, and I recently recounted some woeful overhead uncontested marking attempts at Maroochydore. Like most on here, I support the lad, and hope he makes it as a regular, but I am a realist, and do not turn a blind eye to player's deficiencies. I find myself hoping that the likes of Gibbons and perhaps Cuningham show plenty as pressure forward types, as on exposed viewing, I don't see CamPo as an acceptable piece of a successful structure. I reiterate,
I like the young bloke, but objectivity must prevail. Many of his 2018 highlights came from second efforts after earlier misses.

It is time "my little mate" Bolts, stops fixating on certain admirable traits of some players, and considers the big picture. Hopefully we have come too far to
be carrying project players in our best 22. JSOS was given that message last year and has responded well. I hope Polson improves his handling so he can be considered a long term, viable option.

Great summary. 100% agree. Hasn't done anything yet to suggest he should be in a best 22. Fasolo's injury however may give him a chance for Rd1

Can Fisher develop into a R. Gray?
If so, why cant he play fwd instead of mid?
As Gray is not considered wasted in the fwd line

How can people tell? Hasn't kicked a ball in anger yet

Small frame, agile, comes from a sport that is very much about guarding a man. Think he has the right traits, and as everyone knows it's very rare for a junior small defender to get drafted to play as a small defender at AFL level. It's not a glamourous role, and requires someone very team-first with a high level of discipline. I think if Owies was given the job at VFL levek for 2-3 years, we may find ourselves with a very capable lockdown small defender who complements our other defenders nicely.

I'm not writing him off in other positions, and maybe he could become an elite mid/fwd or tagger, but that small defensive role is one we need to fill, and I reckon we've got a strong candidate onto the list for absolutely no outlay, which may save us the hassle of trying to trade for one down the line.

I hope Polson makes it at senior level, but I can't say I'm confident that he will.

Obviously he was played way before he was ready. Normally we wouldn't see someone that raw in the seniors, and that probably colours how we see him. Add to that the fact that most of our other kids had a number of special moments in their early senior games that got us excited and hinted at what they could do -- even guys that haven't really come on yet like Cuningham. Polson took 13 games to look like he knew what sport he was playing.

All up, it's hard to judge, and probably not fair on Polson to compare him to some of our other kids, consciously or not. That said, at this point there seems a fair chance that Polson will become another Graham -- great at VFL level but not quite able to match it in the AFL. But if he proves me wrong, I'll be delighted.

I think Gray is much more dangerous in the air, one on one, whereas I think Fisher thrives in the chaos of a contest.

To suggest that Gray isn't considered wasted in the forward line is also incorrect. Port fans have been calling for him to be used in the middle as much as possible for yonks. Made sense for him to come back via a forward role post-injury, but he's being used there now because they lack other threats.

Fisher is a mid first. Don't mind him following the ball forward to work the stoppages, but he's much more potent playing out of the middle and hitting up our marking targets than he is starting in a forward pocket in case the talls don't take the mark.

If all parties are honest. If everyone sincerely focusses on serving the interests of player and club growth, motivation should remain strong.
Lets look at it another way...
You are on approx $175,000 a year.
You work they year for your company and as the year progresses, you are asked to take on new challenges. Its a challenging year but you have done your best. Then your employer says you need to do more training and your wage is going to drop back to approx $50,000.

So, you dont think its a potential negative for you?

Hope to have some intel regarding Williamson chrons rumours Thursday or Friday.
Not saying I know anything right now because I don’t, but am planning to catch up with someone that will definitely know...just to reiterate every one I know that should know haven’t heard anything.

I'm also worried about our small forwards, I think Garlett will be our best shout this year if he's fit and motivated him along with Fasolo and a resting midfielder should work ok. It's definitely something we have to address next trade period, Pickett will probably get relegated to the rookie list. Gresham very high on the wishlist.

Lets go for Rankine instead.

The problem with good players is that we want multiple of them :)
But, the upshot for me is - will the team be better served with Fisher in the fwd line? We have more midfield options, but less so with smart small fwds
So, Fisher 60% fwd and 40% mid will do for me

Look at anther way, the min AFL rookie salary is a minimum, not maximum, salary. if your employer sees potential worth pursuing yet requiring more development than is otherwise ordinary, it would be akin to supporting your development rather than ignoring it.

You say plenty of stupid things, this is not one of them.
think I'll be the judge of the stupid things I say - and the circumstances in which they arrive here.........

....and Lukosius....and Rozee....all with our first round draft pick, along with a few lower picks just to seal it.
Just ask them.
I would just love it if Port and us cut their grass!!
