Fingers crossed no injuries. Oliver/Viney/May/Jones are all aiming for JLT 2 I believe so we’ll have a somewhat weaker midfield, but result in this game is irrelevant anyway.

agree RE: Point 1!

shame those guys wont be playing JLT 1, enjoy watching them play.

The one i want to ask about is Preuss. I'll put my hand up and say I thought his move to the Dees was a very odd choice given you have Gawn in the ruck, do you think you will be looking to play both of them in the same team all year round?

I've never been sold on either of them being a good enough forward to make it work well for you, but that may have changed during the pre season?

I think they’re going to play Preuss round 1 and swap him and Gawn up forward. I’m not sold on Preuss being a forward either but Gawn is a genuine marking threat, just needs to focus on his conversion. I think with the 6/6/6 coming in we don’t want to give teams an inch in the centre square which Preuss obviously helps with, and we won’t run Gawn into the ground like we almost did last year (He really benefited from the pre finals bye).

Some of these suggestions do my head in, the past few seasons and Leppa's recent comments have advised everyone our plans & thoughts, we will play best available.

Were not going to do weird stuff, we have 2 matches to prepare for round 1, we play best available under our new/old system.

That will be of my interest, our game plan and also with a few injuries to Grigg, Caddy, Lynch etc who they see at 23, 24, 25 player after this preseason.

Will watch on with interest znd hope for no injuries.

We do the same thing under Goodwin, sometimes I'd like to see some of the fringe guys but generally the first half of each preseason match at least is our best available 22. Probably the best way to approach it when the clubs only play two official games now.

JLT series kicks off this weekend and we are playing Melbourne in what can only be described as "their Grand Final"

Not going to do a 'last time we met' or anything like that given the JLT is a bit of a unknown, so instead I'm going to pose a few questions that I would love to get everyones thoughts on for this JLT game:

1) What are you hoping to get out of this JLT game vs Melbourne?
Solid hit out with no injuries and a good look at a couple of the younger kids

2) Who are the prime candidates to do some rucking duties while Nankervis is off the ground?
Judging by the intra club it will be Soldo

3) How much game time do you expect Cotch, Dusty, Jack and Rance to get?
2/3 to 3/4 of a game should they play this week. Possible we could go with a younger group to give them a chance before settling on a possible round 1 line up in JLT2 against Hawthorn

4) Brandon Ellis needs to have a big JLT, will his move back to the wing reignite his form of 2014?
By all reports he has found his mojo again as well as a bit of mongrel.

5) Which young player are you looking forward to seeing run around the most?
A tie between RCD and Ross

6) Do you expect to see much difference in our game plan in 2019 vs 2018?
By viture of the starting positions our game plan will change as we will not be able to utilise our preferred set ups of 8-6-4 or 7-6-5. From the clips I have seen from training and the intra club we still look intent on moving the ball quickly forward at all costs and are looking at trying to hurt teams on the turnover like we have the last 2 seasons.

7) What is your starting 22 for this JLT game?

In JLT I believe they have squads of 26 with subs allowed.

B: Broad Garthwaite Vlastuin
HB: Houli Balta Short
C: Markov Cotchin Ellis
HF: Rioli Moore RCD
F: Bolton Soldo Butler
R: Nankervis Martin Prestia
INT: Higgins Ross English Stack Menadue Coleman-Jones Naish Baker

Kids, kids and more kids. I understand the stars need match practice too but I want to see the newbies. No injuries.

1) What are you hoping to get out of this JLT game vs Melbourne?

Injury free
Try out some different setups (forwards/rucks mostly)
A solid workout

2) Who are the prime candidates to do some rucking duties while Nankervis is off the ground?

I think they'll use Soldo as 1st ruck, with Nank as forward/backup ruck. If they can get that to work, that'll be setup going forward.
That's not to say they wont try a few other things 'just in case', but that'll be plan A.

3) How much game time do you expect Cotch, Dusty, Jack and Rance to get?

2-3 qtrs, depending on what they're trying. I doubt Jack will get much rest due to them wanting to try a bunch of forward/ruck setups.

4) Brandon Ellis needs to have a big JLT, will his move back to the wing reignite his form of 2014?

Not sure about 'need', but it's certainly looking good so far.

5) Which young player are you looking forward to seeing run around the most?

All of them, but with only 2 games, I'm not sure we'll see them unless they're likely to get gametime this year.

6) Do you expect to see much difference in our game plan in 2019 vs 2018?

More talls, especially up forward. Lynch and possibly a second ruck...given Lynch wont be there for JLT 1 or 2 ( hopefully he'll make JLT3 Vs cartoon ) we could see Moore, Balta or CCJ playing 'as Lynch' to try and get the structure right.

7) What is your starting 22 for this JLT game?

Isn't it something like 26?
~20 of the 22 they'd select if it was a real match and bunch of kids to make up the numbers (exactly who depends on form, fitness and thus openings). Given JLT is in Tas, I can see us going harder in this game (selection wise) and resting a few next up.

the Shepp forecast for the week
36°C 37°C 37°C 38°C 37°C 36°C 36°C

the ground might be a tad firm

don't want to hurt any of our thoroughbreds

that will dampen the efforts of both teams even thou they have been doing preseason in so pretty hot weather

we'll still get something

in an Ansett Cup game(many years ago) I watched with interest when a rookie of ours , a very short one , went up to Adam Goodes and kept thrusting his chest into him and managed to nullify a couple of 1 on 1 contests and win one
I liked his spirit but thought he was too short to make it .... it was Jake "The pushup" King :-)

so hopefully we turn up a new rookie star ... Weller , Stack ????
