This is usually the time of the year that I am most excited about the footy. All my hopes and dreams are still alive as I chant 'this is our year!' with none of that silly premiership season reality to harsh my buzz and crush my dreams.
This year however, I am struggling to get pumped. I think I have been burnt too many times, and I'm not sure I can go through it again. Not saying that I will give up on footy, just that the excitement is missing and I think I have numbed myself for protection.
BFers would know I like to stay positive and joke around no matter what is happening on the field. But as we approach round 1, I just feel flat.
Are others feeling like this? Is it understandable? Or do I just need to drink a whole quarry full of cement?
Nope. Don't feel flat at all, but did so when Docherty went down and then the cherry on top with Pickett & McGovern the same day.
I felt Docherty was the last player we could afford to lose....yes, more so than Cripps.
Can't do much about that now and have accepted it as something we'll have to deal with.
I think we can see where our strengths are going to show up and where our weaknesses may let us down.
Once you accept something as being the case, you can draw enjoyment out of the good things and the growth and appreciate we'll tend to the flaws again this off-season.
Other than that, we need games, games and more games into the young players. You can see where they'll take us.
EDIT: Re. McGovern
He is under-cooked but the one things he does do is to instil fear into opponents. That alone isn't good enough, but he'll get there.
Just wish we had players that could work around these tall forwards. Obviously, I don't think we have.
