MAKE it three …

Carlton will blood a third Club debutant on Thursday night, with Francis Evans to run out for the Blues against the Tigers.

With Lucas Camporeale and Nick Haynes also playing their first games for the Club, Evans will pull on the Navy Blue in front of 80,000 people at the MCG for the traditional clash.

I love these moments before our 1st game.

Anything is possible.
Beating Hawks is now up there with beating Collingwood and Essendon for mine.
So rest up Charlie...

bitch slap GIF

wrong spirit animal but that's as close as I can get...

I'm all in on Motlop. I know he hasn't shown the consistency but this kid is electric in creating goals out of nothing, you even feel it at the ground. People have the right to be frustrated when he disappears for the majority of the game but the next stage for him is figuring out how to get involved when it's not going his way, especially from a pressure perspective.
He is one touch off the deck - but not in play

If he can be one touch in open play he could be anything

Quick hand to foot, extremely skillful around goal

I struggle to see any game breakers or game winners for them in that side. Handful of good soldiers who are north of 30 or up against it; a broken Lynch who'll be lucky to play out 3 quarters; and a bunch of kids.

This should be a training drill. No mercy - put the foot down and do not let up, Baggers.

I want to see lots of F50 tackles by our forwards.

Lock the ball in!

Heads will roll if they aren't able to lock the ball in in the forward half of the ground.

Expect a big year from Mots - reckon he's matured a lot and realises the commitment/sacrifice required at the top level to succeed.

He's a game changer too - can kick 3 or more in a quarter when on fire!

Mots and Williams are both quality. Williams too looks cherry ripe - full pre season...

Kemp as a legitimate third tall target changes our make up too - for the better. Terrific overhead - will smash Broad or Vlastuin for example (reckon he'll do well against Sicily come Rd 2) - he's quick too. Rang rings around Taylor the other day in the GWS game....

All the big H knee stuff - is there really any legitimacy to it? I've seen zero credible reports.

And I still reckon we might see Charlie out there...
I like the look of this forward line. My only concern is that with Kemp, Zac and Evans, that's half the forward line who are either new to the roles, or have barely played together as a group.
Shouldn't be a concern in regards to the result, but might be a bit disjointed while they all figure it out.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not necessarily looking for output. We can still learn a lot from tonight in terms of system/structure.

We should also have respect for every opponent we face no matter what. We've achieved nothing and should never write off our opposition before the first bounce.
I was thinking the WC games year where we looked great but stumbled the next week.

I think we lack natural goal kicking forward options. Against Richmond, I'd be picking Moir.
I've thought, and said, this for years. Our forwardline really lacks natural goal kickers, and natural forwards more broadly - guys who know how to find pockets of space, time a lead, know where to crumb the ball, how to block etc. Even H and Charlie tend to win 1v1 more often than through forward craft. Charlie mostly gets his wins through athletic dominance. Harry gets on the move a bit better in fairness to him.

Agreed, he makes something happen - out of nothing - the stuff of all great small forwards....

likes to run up the ground too...

Only 7 games last year and he wasn't right when he came back in (was too bulked up, on the slow side).

But with 40 games under his belt and (according to him) the fittest and fastest he's ever been...

His time is now.

He's a confidence player and a performer/show man too - the Tigers game is perfect for him to show his stuff.

Charlie is a natural goal kicker (and a freak athlete too) but needs to cut out the dumb grappling.... what a waste of energy.

If Motlop and Williams start to shine (and no reason they won't - they've shown they can), we'll be a hugely different (and better) offensive threat...

The fourth tall/mid forward or 3rd small is an interesting one now EH out for a stint.... Fantasia when back or Fog for his defensive work...or Evans (was included for a reason rather than a back)?

The only thing I would be worried about is that we dominate play and struggle to score.

I'm looking at that forward line from an opposition team's perspective I'm only seeing one dangerous forward.

Walsh, not really a forward or noted goal kicker. Kemp has had some good games against weak sides but is relative new and unknown as a forward. Fogarty is not a threat nor a goal kicker and opposition defenders who man him will likely be looking to drop off and guard space. Same goes for Cottrell. Neither kick goals. Zac Williams is a repurposed player who has hardly ever played forward and has not staked his claim as a dangerous goal kicker. Motlop has had the odd game and threatened to be a goal kicker but again has not stamped his authority as a major goal kickler. Evans is straight out of the VFL, didn't do much in the practice games so there won't be a huge worry there. Harry McKay is a star of the competition and is a noted goal kicker.

As an opposition coach I will be focusing heavily on McKay believing that if his scoring is limited, you give yourselves a chance to be in the game.

From our perspective we go in with a really strong midfield and defence against a weak side and will expect to dominate general play and offer the forwards a huge supply with the impression that anybody is going to be able to kick goals tonight. Sheere weight of supply will get the job done and if we are able to lock the ball in the forward line this will prevent any opposition run ons later in the game due to fast rebounding.

I am expecting that our onfield depth, high rotations through the midfield and defence will be what wears them down. I expect them to have good periods but inevitably be worn down because our depth and quality of depth is too good.

I'm expecting a lot of work will go into McKay and DeKoning when he is forward. So I am hoping that this creates opportunities for our other forwards to step up. I don't really rate our forward line at all, I think tonight it will be effective but against decent opposition we will be very happy to welcome Curnow back and hoping that some of our youth like Motlop and Moir will at some stage step up.

I'm excited for Camporeale. I think on a fast deck out on the MCG in a good side playing a weaker side, this is a great opportunity for him. Excited to see Haynes and Silvagni in defence with McGovern playing smaller. I think midfield pressure is going to be massively rewarded tonight. Weitering will be busy with Lynch but he loves these jobs. We will be looking at Lynch the same way they will be looking at McKay. Put a lot of effort into him, crowd his space and Haynes, McGovern and Silvagni will do this.

Cowan, Saad, Hollands and Docherty should provide plenty of run so also looking forward to that.

A proper amount of midfield rotations. Excited for Lord, I really rate him. I think Cripps goes forward a fair bit to gives us that extra tall target. Our midfield bats deep and we should be able to keep players fresh.

There's a lot of new stuff happening structurally for the better so really happy to see this.

At risk of being dismissive...with the lineup the Tigers are trotting out this week it's not just the forward line they need to worry about kicking goals. Cripps will get on the end of a couple, TDK will rest forward at some point and should get at least one, Cerra and Walsh good for one each, gut feel Doc will kick one at some stage in his varied role, Gov and Saad will be looking for the give-and-go from 55, both wingers will be able to drift run off their man and get some ball around the arc...we'll get 10 goals from outside the forward 6.

Had the same thoughts gb.

But given the inexperience of the Tigers team I expect (no demand) that all 6 forwards have to hit the scoreboard. Expect Harry and Kemp to be marking forwards, with Williams, Motlop pouncing on the loose balls and scoring.

I think guys like Fogarty and Cottrell bring great pressure but surely in a game like this they should also be able to score.
