Interesting selections coming up.

Kruezer Silvagni Kennedy Fasolo all viable options to come in Rd One

Can't wait until Marchbank Macreadie Lang & Wlliamson are available

I think Gibbons will struggle to play round 1 TBH with Fasolo, Silvagni and Kennedy pushing hard.

If we went say;
Plowman, Jones, Thomas
Simpson, Weitering, Newman
Fisher, Cripps, Walsh
McGovern, C Curnow, SPS
Cuningham, McKay, ???
Phillips, Dow, Murphy
E Curnow, Setterfield, Garlett???

That leave Polson, Gibbons, Fasolo, Silvagni & Kennedy fighting for 2 spots.

I'd like to see Polson and Dow out for Kennedy and Silvagni, this would allow Murphy to go forward a bit more.. can throw both JSOS and Kennedy in the guts to help out especially if resting Cripps up forward.

Dow just needs to work on his composure and one touch (fumbling too much) and Polson not getting enough of it atm.

Drop Dow??

You seriously can't expect last years wooden spooners to knock over arguable the best team for the majority of last year. Sure I think we can push them, but getting the 4 points would mean everything would have to go right for us on the night.
We aren't the same team as last year's wooden spooners. Just as, in 2017, they weren't the same team that finished 13th in 2016. I expect us to knock them over.

Plowman Jones Newman
Garlett Weitering Simpson
Murphy Cripps Walsh
Kreuzer Kennedy Ed
Cuningham Charlie Fasolo
McGovern Harry Thomas
IC: Fisher, SPS, Dow, Setterfield

EM: Polson/Gibbons/Jack

Thomas FP, I don't mind it. Would have to have some clear instructions not to really fly at the ball though as he doesn't mind a go at a hangar, need his x factor when the ball hits the deck more than in the air though.

Seems about right as far as a 22 goes although I think Murhpy and Thomas would swap and Jack's game on Sunday might having him push out Kennedy after his shoulder

Thomas has the footy brain to play anywhere - body size to tackle well in the pocket and knows how to scrag a goal.
Fasolo is an MCG 'specialist' will kill 'em on a bigger ground.
IF fit Kennedy will show what he's got - I like him a lot.
Prefer Ed on ball and tagging and using his endurance to create an option - that is his real go.

I reckon my selections take pressure off kids and allow them to be used as shock troops.

For all the talk of Ed playing Forward this year I think it was more about getting mid field minutes into the young blokes over the 3 pre-season games than anything else. If Monday's game was for 4 points Ed would be running with Treloar or Sidebottom, not sitting in a forward pocket as they get massive stats.

He will play forward a bit just for rotations but 80% of the time he will be locked on to Cotchin next week.

I've been hyper critical of Murph over the last couple of days- which means he will probably come out on Thursday and be BOG too good to hide in a forward pocket.

If Murphy had used the ball better on the weekend he would have been excellent, 7 inside 50's 7 tackles to with his 22 touches is exactly what we need from him, he just needs to go at better than 68% DE with 4 clangers.

On the bigger ground I can see him racking up the stats playing that outside role.

Well, if that works, I'm happy to be hypercritical of Murph before the Port game.

If Dow was dropped for Jack Silvagni I'd probably move to Mars

Murphy has the ability to do so.
Hasn't looked brilliant so far through the pre-season games, but maybe he hasn't just yet put the foot down, nor even asked to do so.

Still think he'll be very good in his new role, once the tall forwards start to click.

Just realised I was reading Murphy as a half back flank in your team, not a wing. Sorry.

I would still prefer to see Thomas behind the ball rather than a forward pocket though.

Yeah this makes sense. I thought it might have been about the forward line needing an older head to provide leadership and keep them organized with the reduced access to runners (with the added benefit of avoiding any ego issues or forward line leadership tension between the three talls - cooperation needed not competition). But I think you are probably right.

He can be fit but not be match fit. Hasn’t played a minute game time for 8 months?

That will be the point of his current training plan. I’m sure he hasn’t forgotten how to football in the past 8 months.

Judd needed a run in the VFL, his training plan would’ve been on point and also doubt he’d have forgotten how to football (since he was out for less time).

Polson OUT
JSos IN

Jack on a HFF and add him to the midfield rotation.

McGovern stays. Big body who's a big game player gets to show his wares.

How would McGovern not stay?

I wouldn't like to see Ed back in the main midfield group. I think we have moved past that.

If we get a couple of injuries to mids, then ok, but otherwise we have now got better options imo. Pre-season has shown me that Cripps, Fisher, SPS, Murphy and Walsh can all run out the full game for the 1st month and Dow and Setterfield aren't far away. Then we have Silvagni, Kennedy and O'Brien who are ready to run out games.

I think Ed needs to make a go of pressure forward. Of course he will still be a valuable contributer as someone who can do a bit of a few things and is durable throughout a season.
