And this is why we don’t want the Grand Final messed around with.
The NRL adopted a night-time Grand Final in 2001, starting at 8pm, before moving to the start time to 7pm from 2002-07.
It was then moved to a twilight 5pm timeslot for five years from 2008-12, before reverting back to a 7pm start time in 2013.
None of these changes are for the spectacle or players best interests, it is all due to television rights and advertising.
It is a huge occasion and you can make a day of it. I was lucky enough to go to the 2006 grand final and it was awesome to be able to celebrate for several hours afterwards and properly savour the win.
