Facebook users tally must be worse than Adelaide’s “membership”

My fb feed full of stories about cohens testimony and I look at comments and 90% of comments are attacking cohens character or claiming it’s a witch-hunt etc

I don’t buy those profiles are real at all.

I reckon while we are waiting on our billion dollar jets to be delivered god knows when foreign powers moved the battle grounds a long time ago.

I'm so proud of the role our club's president played in getting an actual fascist into parliament.

Assuming you're referring to Anning, that is a hell of a long bow to draw.

Not at all. The support Hanson achieved through, in large part, her paid appearances on Sunrise led to her having a large enough vote for two quotas at the last election. While Roberts getting booted was the accident, the platform was given. That's putting aside for the moment, the similarities between Hanson's views and actions and Anning's. Sunrise gives a platform to white supremacy and has done so as part of its business model for some time now.

I'm looking forward to winter and lots of rain it might even wash the soft**** lefty bastions of moral standards horseshit out of this thread.
Friday’s massacre is the end result of years of rhetoric used like “soft**** lefties”

This 19 vote thing being held up as some sort of undemocratic gotcha moment is so dumb. As if anyone who voted above the line for One Nation wouldn't approve of Anning and his views.

There are 76 Senators - and you can bet your bottom dollar 1 in 76 Australians would align themselves with those comments.

The problem here is democracy. Walk out onto the streets. One citizen, one vote, one value is ridiculous. Some people don't' deserve a vote. It's a flawed system.

You should read the guy's manifesto if that's what you really believe.

The guy was a militant extremist, not a Trump loving conservative or typical "right wing" person by the standard definition.

That's the problem in this current climate though, if you're not "left" you're a Nazi and if you're not "right" you're a commie so when a real nut job like this emerges, everyone is at a loss as to work out how it happened and they just double down on their tribalism.

Hmm you’re generally right but you’ve also normalised Trump for some reason who is an unequivocal white supremacist.

Not incidentally, the shooter did identify Trump as a symbol of "renewed white identity".

Anning got in because he was third on the One Nation ballot and 250k people, 10% of Queensland, voted for them. God knows why, besides all the racist shit, they’re an utterly ridiculous party with no real policies that benefit Australians at large, other than silly outdated ideas like printing more money or flat tax proposals. All they do is make up voting numbers in the senate for the LNP, or token bills like “it’s ok to be white”.

Due to the senates voting criteria, they won two out of ten Queensland seats in the senate.

Malcom Roberts ruled inelligible due to Australia’s constitution, being born in India and generally being a muppet.

So Anning, third on the ballot, got in. It’s people falling for Pauline Hanson’s bullshit and a government trying to appease them for senate votes is how we got here.

I read it, it was written like how some “shitposter” muppet on 8chan would write

Everybody has the right to vote, even numpties whole scrawl obscenity on their ballot papers.
If you start to screen people you end up with Christian Democrats in control.
You get what you deserve ( heard that somewhere before), so if some fool reneges on his rights by emptying invective on a ballot paper, and the Christians gain power, then so be it.
One vote one value is aspirational, but so long as they keep striving for it I'm happy.

The point I'm making is that people say they want democracy like it's some sort of ideal, but then when it delivers a guy like Anning, everyone is up in arms saying how could this happen.

I agree that voting above the line is a real problem, in the Senate. In this case you do not get what you deserve.
It requires new rules, particularly on the Senate ticket to cut down on the toilet roll of candidates presented.
I think they started to do that when they mandated that you did not have to vote 1-600 on the ballot paper, but more needs to be done

He might embolden the average redneck but he's far from being driven by white identitarianism. The guy is a capitalist and a businessman first and foremost. Look a bit closer and you'll see those on the far right giving up their support of Trump.

Im not a fan of the guy but I'm well beyond thinking that a single figure is the leader of the free world. He's backed by corporations and lobbyists and the military industrial complex, just like The Clintons, The Bushes and Obama (who deported Hispanics at a much higher rate than Trump has btw.)

Doesn't a democracy give power to the people? if i remember correctly, the only reason Anning got in is because the original guy got dumped and him luckily having the next highest number of first preference votes which was an embarrassingly low 19 votes. Hardly the voice of the people.

That electorate should have gone to a by-election to elect the next candidate.

Being born rich and playing a businessman on a reality tv show doesn’t make someone a businessman, btw. Something something multiple bankruptcies.

Embracing white supremacists as “very fine people” and refusing to identify the problem as what it is absolutely makes someone a white supremacist, though.

Also someone who calls refugees rapists and criminals.
