Smith and Laird were very average under pressure today, Smith looked panicked and Laird's high loopy kicks under pressure were easily knocked off by the Hawks. A majority of our players just did not stand up to the Hawks high pressure which they brought on steroids.

Those two always play horribly against Hawthorn, particularly Laird.

Not sure why so many tipped us today.

Forwards gave nothing. Knight was ordinary, he is ordinary. Murphy was awful.

Knight is overrated. Controversial opinion in the pre-season but he doesn't get enough of the ball and doesn't do enough

Because football is a game played on paper not between 44 blokes on a field and 2 in a box upstairs

Obviously you don't get it..... lol....

I pointed out that responding doesn't mean shit if we continue to puff out the chest "well, we responded" and then go back to serving up this sort of garbage. Which has been the cycle for a few years now.
Lol ok so what just give up on the year then? after one game? mate have you actually ever played sport, some days for what ever reason it just doesn't happen. If there is no "response' after a bad game then you really have a problem, you are just rubbish.
It been one game so far this year lets calm down till round five and then start with condemnation.

Our defenders worked their arses off, released to the half backs, then they and the mids distributed terribly or bombed it long.
Or they fluffed their kicks or just plain kicked it straight to the opposition.

I know I'm clutching at straws, but it looked like they were trying to persist with a new short kicking game plan, hoping that it would kick in to gear. The problem is that under pressure we need players of real class and skill to execute this.

This has been a theme for many years now, if you rush the crows they break down. It doesn't really matter what our game plan is, we simply lack class to execute under pressure.

Not controversial at all. Injury has played a part in it I think, but he has rarely given anything since 2015.

It's controversial for this board. People love him because he annoyed Selwood that one time

We almost need a completely separate game plan when we play Hawthorn.

Im concerned that we spent the entire pre season focusing on oursleves and not once did it look like we had answers to what Hawthorn was doing.
I also think what ever the gameplan is, its too complicated to play it during high pressure games. It needs to be simplified.

I thought Keath was excellent, Did a great Job on Roughead. McEvoy gave Jacobs a bath

We have on average 2 wacky rounds a year(where predicted results are thrown into chaos). This is the first. Relax... normality will be restored next week.

Where did I say give up on the year?
We need to stop this shit consistently to be a top club.
I could state the point I'm making again but the point is going right over your head so we should leave it there.. :drunk:

BTW, are you Graham Cornes with that pathetic 2nd sentence?

Right now, I think the start and end of the positives is it is round 1, and a few other contenders have lost so we aren't having to make up ground on most of our main threats.

That said, this does cement the idea of a Hawks game like Geelong in Geelong proposition. Write it off as a loss at the start of the season, and move on, because if we couldn't fire a shot in these conditions, we don't have a hope in hell when injuries mount.

For whatever reason, we crumble. Every side has a team like this at least.

The Good: i won $240 on a Port/Hawks multi today from a $20 bet. I put that bet on 2weeks ago. Crows are too predictable and Hawthorn have owned us for a decade... Same $ hit different year... nothing will change with pathetic club.

Bad: Doedee's ACL season over injury.. our forward line entry, Tex and JJ were MIA

Ugly...the turnovers, happy handball and the fact we are now looking at a 0-4 start IMO
Only 2 teams from 40 odd have made the finals from a 0 -2 start.

Yet another loss to Hawthorn on our home deck. Clarko just has our measure. I bet us at Adelaide Oval is one of his fixture requests every year. It's disgraceful how he beats us in the exact same way every single time. Sets up behind the ball, waits for the bail out kick that they always mop up. Add in lack of intent and poor skills and it's amazing they didn't completely smack us.

If there's anything at all to take out of today, it's that we always look like windowlickers against Hawthorn so maybe it's not going to be another whole year of this rubbish. Not confident though.

Tex when he did actually moved, moved into the path of his own players which took the space away.

Has Tex really ever had a good FULL year since he did his knee. This injury robbed him of his man asset IMO - his mobility once the ball hits the deck and on the lead. He has never been a contested marking, crash and bash tall forward in fact I think he is quite soft in the air. I once predicted he would kick 70-80 goals in a year. He will be luck to kick 25. Unfortunately his legacy could be playing one of the worst captains games in a GF this competition has seen.

2017 was his best one, but the year of injuries last year has killed him off.

I know one thing, I'm not wearing the yellow cap anymore

I had one of the Crows players kick it to me in the grandstand we were that bad at spotting up the yellow

The most concerning thing was we were out coached yet again. Pyke got off too lightly with excuses last year. We won't win a flag under him. He is a poor motivator and technician. To expect everything to just click this season is Ken Hinkley like.

I said over summer that the club has read our list wrong. They think we are in a premiership window now but reality is that was 2017. We have half a dozen players well past there best. We dropped the ball badly with out list Management.

I love Eddie but he has to be told to stop flying for marks. The forward structure is all wrong.

It is Round 1 so early days but I think we are headed for another mid table finish and a rebuild

Stop what shit? playing bad games? be nice. But it happens to every team. No one goes undefeated. Maybe that is our one bad one for the year? maybe not but i will be far more worried if we come out next week and play the same way again rather than have a crack and win.
Thats just me thou.

Yeah, 2015 he was pretty good.

10 Brownlow votes in that year, and 59 goals. Most ave marks per game in his career too.
