It contrasted to the days of Suban, where we held the ball up waiting for a more certain option. Our movement by hand at the tempo we played today, we would have spudded it up somewhere in the chain back in 2012-2015.

Then as now, I think the intent is to use the tools at hand to their best effect, sure if it's dark and raining you could grab a butter knife out of the kitchen to tighten one screw instead of going to the shed, but as a carpenter doing someones back deck, you'd only whip the butter knife out to make your sandwhich. When you are deficient in skill, throw the lesser skilled playing group hard at the opponents, put them under pressure and make them play below their ability. Well, we've got the skill now it would seem and it merits using the tools at hand differently.

You speak like the person in your avatar, and I mean that positively.

See what difference it makes having each forward play their own role.
Tabs lead up on the wing, McCarthy long leads from the goal square. Lobb resting up forward. Banfield were so handy. Ballas and Schulz stayed in the forward line. Then Walters started in the forward line at 6-6-6. My god. Finally. Actually worked out forwards are meant to do their role and it’ll work out.
McCarthy wasn’t once going into the air to make a contest, getting in the way of Tabs.
Lobb and Tabs did that to aplomb.
What do we do now? Hogan has to fit somewhere. But to the expense of?

Very interesting watching the game live.

The positioning at the stoppages was a lot smarter, trusting their team mates to win the ball and feed it out to them.

It made us look so much faster.
Certainly helps having Mundy back as a full-time mid, and Fyfe fit. A Grade clearance specialists don't grow on trees and we have 2!

You could tell by Pav's comments that he was a little bit jealous of the ball movement and said he'd never seen it like that, ever. Especially not when he was playing. Great signs.

Tucker. Man he just grown within one game. Neale gone is practically the making of him. Held Higgins and was great the other way. The guy is fit as, has a great left kick too.
Side note- he did come off with a shoulder injury. Did come on with strapping. Hoping it’s all good, nothing too bad?

God him with a Lobb would’ve been sensational. Add on a Tabs.
The best he ever got was Clarke and Mayne. Feel for him hahaha

I'd like to think it was our elite pressure that caused it, but i'll hold court for now. At worst, I reckon some players will get some confidence out of it.
It wasn't so much the pressure, it was the structure. Round 2 vs Essendon last year was similar, today was even better. Everyone was really quick to be in position in defence and they had nowhere to go. Then apply pressure on ball and they turn it over, we are all structured nicely and therefore can move it quick on the rebound - we were hitting short/medium targets and only going long to the contest when we needed to (and had some big boys to get us out of trouble down the line if we needed). Having some beautiful kicks like Mundy and Tucker in the midfield helped a lot as well. Really disciplined effort by the whole team.

We'll have bigger challenges ahead but if we can stay disciplined with the defensive structure we should be competitive in most games. We also have much better depth to cover injuries now. Tabs going down early last year meant we had no big forwards for the down the line bail out kick for instance.

I couldn’t have been happier with the spread of performers all over the ground; Hamling towelling up BBB (only got his goals from cheap free kicks), Moose’s rebound off half back, Brayshaw, Banfield, Tucker, Schultz, Dardy, Darcy won rapped some balls down the throats of our mids... the only two I thought could’ve got more involved were Cerra and Willi, but they didn’t do a lot wrong apart from not getting it a bit more/

Caught some of the second quarter on the radio and watched the second half...kept thinking is this real life? Couldn't have had a better start to the season

I still think we have depth issues and a promising season could easily come undone from a few key injuries. But for now....YEEEEEEEEEEEEEOW!

Back to Earth a little bit on Tabs and a little bit McCarthy. They wont get too much an easier game given EVW went out early and they were already underdone down there.

Cox will be breathing down Tab's back come round 3/4 so he would want to show today was more than playing on someone 2 foot smaller than him.

With how McCarthy was today, I think there is room for Lobb, Hogan, Cox/Tabs and himself since I see him as a different player to the other 4, especially if he brings the same pressure each week.
Who comes out for Hogan?

Where’s the North fan that told me Don Tyson would be our 2nd best mid? You know after Fyfe. Because Mundy is too old and hasn’t played at the level of Dom Tyson in years.
That same poster had so many classics. Should do a composition of them, it would be hilarious. One of his comments yesterday was their emergencies would all be clear best 22 for us. Ha ha ha ha ha. Other than their debutant Bailey Scott I'm not sure anyone in their team would be B22 for us based on today's performance.

North were terrible but I am pretty sure only 50% of that was them. We did genuinely play really well and made them look even more bollocks than they did themselves. I think their woeful backline probably accounts for about 4 goals alone, but reckon we earnt the rest. McKay was WAY out of his depth, especially when Tarrant is so underdone.

Happy to admit I was wrong about Tucker. Love him in the role he has now.

Hope it is dry on the GC next week as I should be going.

Trying not to get carried away but have booked my GF tickets...

One thing that's definitely all Ross is how well placed our half backs and defence were everytime North tried to move the ball out of our attacking 50. We had a spare swallowing it up every single time, or were well positioned enough to effect a turnover. You really can't underestimate that stuff.

Who comes out for Hogan?
The actual 6 up front changes all game so its more you drop from the side. IF McCarthy continues with this effort, I think our best 6 up front is
Walters Cox McCarthy
Switta Hogan Lobb

I'd be dropping Colyer from the side as a whole. Banfield and others to rotate through.

Edit: While not a popular thought at the moment, I dont think Schulz is b22 either
