What I want to see for this game:

1. All our mids to once again clock over 20 possessions.
I feel it will become more of a habit of getting hands to the ball, if it is shared around, between Cripps, Fisher, Dow, Walsh, Setterfield and SPS.

2. CCurnow to wake up, as the last couple of games lacked............CCurnow.

3. The three talls in CCurnow, McKay and McGovern to kick 10 between them.

4. A more fluent and cohesive performance.
Still see us being somewhat hard-working, but no fluency in our game and game-plan.

5. Weitering to keep 'bossing' it.

6. A win. Of course.

How about we start with the team kicking 10 goals before we get down to specific players? ;)

On Cunners, he actually played predominately mid last week, not forward.
This is backed by his heat map and the number of centre square bounces he attended.

Aware that Gibbons played mid in the VFL, so would be interested to see if he gets game time there this week and how he goes...we seem to have slotted him in the team predominately as a small forward though.

I guess Polson also played midfield in juniors and some VFL, but can't seem him playing midfield at AFL level.

Still, i think against the likes Boak, Rockliff and SPP that tactically it would be beneficial anyway for Ed to play a decent chunk of the game in the midfield and let Polson/Gibbons spend majority of the time forward.

I can’t see him getting midfield minutes either or not many at all. I think it’s very much a case if he can’t find he’s feet as a small forward he’ll most likely be shown the door.

I’ve got hopes for him though he did provide a spark in the Essendon JLT it might just be a case of him adjusting to the tempo of AFL footy

I thought his most impressive stint in the JLT games was late in the Essendon game where he had a run on the ball.

Our seconds team this week.

Docherty Macreadie Goddard
Williamson Marchbank Schumacher

Kreuzer Kennedy Stocker
Cuningham Lang O'Brien

Pickett DeKoning JSilvagni
LeBois Casboult Kerr

Not too shabby, at all.
Shame that isn't the team

Fixed it for you.
Doesn't look to good now :(

Polson, Gibbons and Ed are all midfielders and not forwards. We are trying to turn them into forwards. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
Hopefully not like when we were trying to turn Hampson into a forward

Really looking forward to this game, from players such as Newman and Weitering etc backing up from last week, to players such Charlie, Fasolo, Gibbons etc blowing out more cobwebs
What are your expectations of Polson this week?

I was at the game but haven’t seen the replay. Doesn’t surprise me given that’s he natural position I just can’t see the club (injuries permitting) giving him time there....he’s not of the ilk of any of our primary mids and we want them at the coal face from a experience perspective. But again I’m not writing him off yet as a small forward, he looks like a he’ll have a red hot crack at it

I’d like a $h1t tonne of manic pressure from errryone that pulls on the Navy blue.

I’d like tackles to stick and hurt dagnamit.

I’d like to kick more goals than points

I’d like Charlie to stick a mark

I’d like Liam Jones to iron out Westwood (Westhoff autocorrects to that so it stays)

I’d like Plow to punch Gray in the groin and not get reported (harsh and I will edit if need be)

I’d like to win

Yep. While Polson is not a natural small forward, he’s the best fit we have at the moment.
Tackling pressure in the forward line is a must. Polson is the man for that. Possession in the forward line is a must. Possession in the forward half is everything in today's game. I think he will be ok

Very confident about this game. Last week was tough for us and Port are very overrated. Melbourne couldn't have been worse. IMO an ordinary side with a couple of guns and a few talented kids.

I expect Cripps to have a blinder, Charlie to step up and our midfield to more than match them. A win tomorrow will be a big reward for a lot of work.

Let's not make this about one player

Like all small forwards, priority is to pressure/tackle/stifle the rebounding 50's that cause turnovers for any player to capitalize, if they kick goals themselves it's a bonus. Difficult for small forwards to be effective if the supply is poor

Tigers v Pies - Inside 50's Tigers 45 Pies 64

Player, Disposals,Tackles,Score
Butler 8,3,0
Castagna 12,1,0.1
Rioli, 12,1,1.0
Higgins 9,1,2.0 (Kid is a freak though)

In a more established side

Varcoe 5,3,0
Elliott 10,1,1.1
Thomas 16,2,1.1
Stephenson 17,1,2.0

Pies won by 44 points yet only kicked 1 more goal from small forwards. Both sets of 4 players had 7 tackles combined, not much difference considering the margin

While pressure is important from small forwards, it's the outriders that play the most important role in locking the ball in/repeat entries.

Our mids are talented, but they have a way to go before they can match the forward entries of the better sides

Brisbane last week;

Rayner - 2 goals
McCarthy - 4 goals
Cameron - 3 goals.

Not bad from their small forward brigade against the premiers, it may be fair to say.

We can do this shit every week, but that's not what it's about.
Every player has to play their role but again, to dismiss the fact that forwards should be able to kick goals, is just a little wrong.

Highlighting one side's small forwards, in a win

How did the small forwards go last week for Pies, Swans, Bombers, Crows, WC when they are starved of opportunities

You are right, we can do this shit week

Lol all 6 in the centre are first round draft picks. Certainly a lot of talent there.

Many other teams have small/medium forwards that can either kick goals or scare their opponents.
We don't have them. We can pretend we do, but we don't have them.

Let's take this up to the main board and see what laugh-fest we can create.
We have the comforts here saying what we want to say, but most of us aren't really objective in discussion.
We're often padding up our own players and simply telling people what they want to hear.

No doubt we'll address our deficiencies at years end and in the meantime, we have no choice but to 'hope' for the best from what we have.

hmmmmm............ on further thought, a strategic move could have been to:

1. Bring Lobbe in for Cuningham to play two rucks and counter the impact of Lycett and Ryder. One ruck covers the back half whilst the other covers the forward half. Other way is to have one ruck resting forward.
2. With a resting ruckman forward, Charlie moves up onto the wing and plays as a midfielder. This will give us another big body around the ball against a team that's renown for their inside work.

This works because Charlie can cover enough ground to play on the wing. May create a dangerous mismatch in our favour.

The other thing is that because McKay and McGovern are mobile forwards, we shouldn't have any issues of being too stagnant.

Then have the likes of Fisher, SPS, Dow, Fasolo, Gibbons, Murphy, Walsh and maybe even Garlett rotating forward at times.

Arrow, broadening and narrowing accountability mechanisms is typically used to provide room to exercise discretion. Its interesting that you rightfully narrow the accountability measures in respect of some players, yet keep the benchmark somewhat ambiguous when it comes to Polson.

You have outlined what the measure may look like in respect of similar players from other teams, and then qualified it with statements such as "in a more established side" and "Tigers v Pies. I am interested in your personal, unambiguous, expectation of Polson at the Blues in 2019 season.

Soapy V , statements such as "to play the role the coach wants him to play. " is a no value response on a footy forum; because it provides no machinery for posters to exercise logic, discussion, validation and or constructive criticism. Furthermore, I didn't ask Arrow to speculate on the expectation of others regarding Polson.; I asked for his personal expectation.
