Yeah agree. Didn't have as much of a problem overall with the character as others seemed to but that death, wowee.

I'm not a book reader, but I really don't get the hate for TV Stannis. The conclusion to his arc was kind of shit (the escalation to him burning Shireen was a bit clumsy, and marching to certain defeat seemed to be trying to wrap his arc up quickly), but everything up to that point seemed fine.

and he gave us this meme:

Yeah same I didn't have much of a problem with him up until the Shirren stuff. Although I will say book Stannis did have a bit of gloss to him that they weren't quite able to convey on screen. Stuff he was doing because he is so unflappably bound by duty and justice (almost to a fault) comes across as just grumpy or something in show, I dunno its hard to explain.

I think I read somewhere that the actor regretted playing him.

I think he regretted his performance because he never got into it as much as others. Doubt he regretted being in the show itself given how successful it was.

His offscreen death was a bad choice. Made me think he was coming back.

His death, I think it was (giving benefit of the doubt) meant to signify that's his 'footnote in someone else's page of history' fear really did turn out to be the case. His brothers, Joffrey, Robb Stark - they all had a flashy or memorable end, and political consequences. Stannis dies in a forest and nobody's there to see it, no political consequence because all he had was his island castle.

Stannis has more in common with Ned Stark than gets noted. Both big on honour, duty etc but Stannis had the personality of a brick and didn't care about being likeable.

Can we add a Lives/Dies poll to this thread?

Have the option to select all major characters and leave blank those who you think will live.

Sounds like the words of a book reader to me!!!

Maybe he's a white walker now!

Just got foxtel, will this be shown live from America time or do I have to wait until night?
It's generally on at 11 on a Monday morning, I assume this year will be no different.
