All I did was mention Aish's name and it set him off. I already tried to make peace via PM, up to him if he wants to accept we have different opinions on him but I shouldn't have to go easy on someone just because TD likes him. That's bullying me...
I like you as a poster but you got this one wrong. TD has a diagnosis.
Good on you for apologising.

Having Varcoe out of the team will backfire just like Greenwood in rd1.

Either Thomas or Aish should be the out for Adams.

I find the Adams straight in the side bizarre,
It has been proven he needs match games after coming back from an injury so why not hold him back in the VFL,
Get some games into him and then pull the trigger.
In a horse racing sense he is better 3rd up after a spell!
Varcoe missing out well i must be watching a different game his chasing getting to a contest etc.

I’m concerned Varcoe is out. He does a lot of work off the ball.

Adams back in is a no brainer

Reckon we’ve made the right selections for this week.
I suspect Bucks and co-selectors are reluctant to fiddle with the back 7 coming up against a well drilled and reasonably stable opposition.
Greenwood is often pigeonholed as just a tagger but he gets quite a bit of it himself. Was one of our best against WCE last time around to my memory.
I love what Varcoe brings to the team but unlike when at his best last year he’s not kicking goals.
I think Adams and Thomas rotating mid/fwd roles (especially as Adams gains match fitness) along with Stephenson and Elliott ( forgot how fast Elliott is) putting pressure on covers a lot of what Trav is bringing at the moment.

The essence of stupidity is to keep doing what doesn't work over and over again.

I sense Buckley is trying to change the mix for sides that have troubled us recently, this time it's Varcoe.

He's a hard nut and I like him - it will be interesting seeing if the strategy works.

Hope his private apology was more sincere than the post you just replied to

TD is one of my favourite posters, we get along well usually but I shouldn't have been a smart arse about Aish but I didn't intentionally mean to get him out swinging, it just happened. I just expressed my opinion I thought Aish would get dropped so Adams could play half back. That's what started it and it got out of control so I apologise.

Tough week at the selection panel. Good to have Tay’s grunt back. Varcs unlucky, while he puts pressure on needs to have more of the ball. Good decision in the end imo.
I thought Varcs was a shoe-in. I take two things from this selection
- the club feels the mids are more suited to rotating forward rather than defence (I tend to agree).
- Greenwood to stay in the midfield and do a job on Shuey or Yeo.

I am a bit surprised about Varcoe getting dropped.Yes,he has had two quiet games so far,but I think he’s got enough credits in the bank from last year to keep his spot, for a while longer anyway.

He has the one thing that this side really lacks, which is speed. We do have a lot of plodders in the side like Phillips,Mayne,Aish etc.Thomas isn’t overly quick either. But Varcoe’s closing speed is elite. No opposition player can ever feel safe with the ball if Varcoe is anywhere in the vicinity. He’s the best we have at chasing down opposition players.

I would have dropped one of the plod squad before I dropped him.

I have to disagree,
But hey its a good problem the pies selection people will face when some other's are right to play eg:Hoskin Elliott.
And the other young players we have on the fringe, unlike perhaps Richmond.?
True. Especially when most of our youngsters have had decent exposure at the top level.

Don’t take this the wrong way, but we should applaud that a player like Varcoe is not getting a game.

Means competition for spots is red hot.

You have to be going really well to retain your spot.

Keeps everyone on their toes.

It feels good to be leaving blokes out than having to bring players in prematurely like we did last year to patch holes. Hopefully it shows in a much better win % against top 8 sides this year as their strengths can be covered better like against West Coast this week who exposed us a bit.
