Granted, they are missing some good players from their defence but they are slow around the ground which is where Essendon is killing them.Melbourne are woeful

And suddenly, so many games are winnable...
Geelong have the same advantage as west coast do with hone games. Start the year with 10 wins locked in.the AFL now is crazy. it seems the teams who should be dropping off like hawthorn and geelong never do. whilst clubs at the start of a dominant era seems slip and slide down
I think that's because clubs have started to take drafting and trading a lot more seriously, gone fully pro and given it as much importance as footy itself. Geelong and Hawthorn have started from a position of strength and smartly turn over their lists finding more quality.the AFL now is crazy. it seems the teams who should be dropping off like hawthorn and geelong never do. whilst clubs at the start of a dominant era seems slip and slide down
Geelong were one of the original clubs to have a stand alone team as well which helps. Put them years ahead of the rest.I think that's because clubs have started to take drafting and trading a lot more seriously, gone fully pro and given it as much importance as footy itself. Agree with what you say.
It also comes down to footy department spend. Hence why poorer clubs struggle.
