Oppo Camp James Aish (Traded to Freo 2019)

He has a terrible rebound game, as he can't execute options that require kicking depth or for ball to go flat and quick through tge air. He also bizarrwly takes too many steps, forces himself into trouble with those childish rainmaker kicks.

Can lock down to a decent level if required, but modern game requires more

Vanilla.
He and Phillips have absolutely zero damage factor in games.
Had 21 possessions. Can anyone think of a damaging one or a significant one. Just blah possessions.
I can think of a few from Phillips. I think he's just a standard whipping boy, Aish is too, but I agree with you on Aish.

I can think of a few that would be on par off the top of my head..
Mayne
Williams
Russell
Blair
Young
Phillips
There is probably more..

That West Coast dude, Mr Vanilla..
That tall fella that went to GWS after being banded for drugs.

Aish or Phillips? Not sure if both can be beat 22. I’d pick a fit Wells over both of them.

Not sure what tricks they offer that we already have.

Phillips, but back to the wing. I think his defensive running to clog up space and then ability to position himself to be an outlet is a really important and missing part of our transition

I tend to agree. Hate him in the forward line. He's not a good enough kick and hasn't enough pace. Has to be wing or VFL.

I laugh at those who say James Aish isn’t creative. He was very creative against West Coast. Kept comming up with new ways to stuff everything up against the eagles. Even when he looked like doing some good he managed to find a way to turn it over. Clear worst on ground.

Need composure to keep that inside 50 retention rate high. Phillips is a headless chook.

This forum is actually ridiculous.

Aish is a role player and he does it well not everybody can be a 30 disposal jet.

think its sad how despised he is amongst collingwood fans.

He's just the latest "haters gonna hate" player. Oxley, Blair, Marty Clarke -- the list goes back. There's not talking sense.

The knock on both Phillips and Aish at the moment is that they are just not damaging enough to the opposition. Both try hard, have their own skill sets and do pretty well but, I don't think the opposition would have too much fear of them getting 20 odd possessions each as they do so little damage.

He's about 10 games into a new role. His ability to lock down on a forward is a step in the right direction but he's long way off what he may become as a finished product.

I think Phillips could well be (at this early stage) a victim of the 6-6-6 rule. Needs to be way more accountable under the new rules and as shown by Geelong, he is very exploitable. He needs to develop the capacity to influence in other positions because we need to be able to move him if that does occur.

Aish needs his confidence built up.

He would add a lot more value if took the game on more with his two best assets which are his marking and kicking.

Anyway, like most of our young guys, he is a work in progress and its good to have a few options to work with in the backline.
