Player Watch #18: Alex Rance

If he’s fit enough to get back this year it’ll only be if we play finals, which would suck for Balta or Garthwaite, especially if they helped get us there, but if we play finals we’ll need as much of our best 22 in there that we can get and Rance is pretty much best 1.

Balta and Stack should stay in the side

We'll adjust to Rance being gone. Right now the problem is almost no forward or midfield pressure. Any defense will suffer when the ball is coming in quick.

GWS also had a day when quite a few of the dump kicks forward fell to their man. That happens when it's your day.

We seriously missed the intercept marking Rance. But I reckon they tagged Vlas cause he's our key now. We'll adjust, but it's not easy.

Depends on how we're shaping up.

If we're lined up for a major crack (top 2, maybe top 4), then yes.

If we're just making up the numbers, no.

The problem then will be that if we actually make top 4, the team would have played great football to get there. Would you then upset the team balance to play a guy who, as good as he is, would be severely underdone especially in huge finals games? Tough questions......

It was reported on SEN that RFC is holding out hope that Rance would return later this year. That's why we haven't put him on the LTI list which would normally have happened already with someone who has done an ACL.

Depends when we're looking at him getting back.
If he only passes a fitness test 2 days before the GF, probably not.
If he starts getting minutes in the 2s from around round 20, then yes.
Everywhere between...see how things look at the time.

Same surgeon as the one that did Goldsack's knee. From memory Goldsack played 2 games in the 2's, then the qual, semi prelim and GF. So 5 games before the GF to get some sort of touch and rhythm going. He also said he was ready a few weeks earlier but had a very minor soft tissue strain? Timelines are pretty similar - Rance did his knee 4 days after Goldy did his last year). If rehab goes smoothly, hes a chance of getting a few games under his belt before finals like Goldy did. Pretty big if though :)

And the strain was in his back not knee.

Im pretty sure we could put him on the LTIL and then take him off it again.
Unless they have changed the rules since the rookies can now just play.
It used to be that rookies could only play if a player was put on the LTIL

Here's hoping. Great story if he makes it back and plays a worthwhile role.

Especially once we've won the premiership. Although poor bugger that gets dropped for Trossman.

He only couldn't play if we used his position to recruit someone in the mid-season draft. So we aren't doing that = Rance can play if he gets fit again.

Oh Rancey is fit...it's that Dickey knee that we are worried about...
