He kicked 6 goals last year...not sure he has demonstrated he is a proven goal scorer. I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he was hampered by injury last year. Having said that if you take the field you are fair game for criticism...and my observations....he doesn't work remotely hard enough
I said he knows where the goals are, not that he has proven to be a high goal scorer - in my mind there is a difference between the two concepts.

I can't remember where he was played mainly in the half season (11 games) he played last year - I seem to recall more midfield than forward but I could be wrong. I also don't recall our forwards getting fantastic supply anyway last year. So, yes, 6 goals is far below what we would like to see from a 'proven goal scorer' this year, but I don't think it disproves that he is capable of finding the goals. Hopefully he gets the chance to step up and, yes as you suggest, work harder to create opportunities to score.

I wouldn’t say huge upgrade they’re just different players......Lang is tractor slow but is a level higher in “football” awareness.

Lang isn't slow. Might've been last year due to injury, but historically he actually moves quite well.

yep - took him off as a precautionary measure - a year or two back we'd have played him till he copped a 4 week injury - progressive ideas are progressive

Waite would have played another season with Russell in charge.???

I'll see myself out.
It’s you, letting yourself back in, that is the concern

37 goals in 5 years?? I'm not relying on him as a small forward or reliable avenue to goal

I think they only took him off because in one kick he showed up 6 or 7 years of patheticness around goals......:D
It worked too because Ed got in on the action once he saw how its done

You can almost be assured new injuries will come. Not trying to jinx us, just being realistic

No doubt, but at some stage it will turn, look at the Tigers prior to this year, Lions in the last 18 months

Even most other sides have more best 22 available at present

I don't think we can compare a players output last year due to the huge amount of injuries we had. Last year if you could bend down and touch your toes you were in the squad. This year, i would like to see long term injury players find their feet in the VFL and come back cherry ripe rather than play themselves in to form at the top level.

I agree. However, if there are players at the top level performing terribly for weeks on end, then I'm happy for more talented players to find peak form in the AFL whilst they contribute more to team success in the interim.

Russell has prepared players adequately for match play, regardless of the level. I'd sooner we allow our better players to synergise in the AFL.

This is what I’d like to see in the next few weeks
Out
Plowman
Polson
O’Brien
Lobbe
Gibbons
Casboult
In
Williamson
Garlett
Kennedy
Kruezer
Cuningham
Charlie

I just want to see the bottom 6 (plus Lang) all fit and pushing for a spot - who goes out depends largely on who takes their chance in the next couple of weeks. If LOB or Polson hit some form then a pretty high quality player will be playing 2's.

Sure, I get that you don't trust in his output based on what he has done so far. He seems to average 11 games a season so looks like it's just under a goal a game. Agree we need someone who can consistently produce more than that. Maybe he will step up and be that person, maybe not.

So given I was talking about Lang being potentially handy now/this season (i.e. not necessarily over the long term), who do you think is a 'proven' goal scoring alternative option that could do the job this season? Not talking about the talls, but the other forward roles.
I think we have a few possible options, but not many have consistently kicked bags.

With ~5 hours until Russell's address, 5 things I want to hear:

1. Kreuzer pulled up well and is available for AFL selection
2. Cuningham has been given the all clear from specialists and is available
3. McGovern and Walsh are fine and available for selection
4. Williamson and Macreadie will line up in the VFL this weekend
5. Lang got through his minutes and will play a full game this weekend

I want Russell to tell me he's drawn 100cc of fluid from Luke Hodge's brain stem and injected it into our footballers.

I may not be a doctor, but I know what I like.

You've just removed most of the fluid from around Hodge's brain and have likely killed him...
