True. But after 7 years. The 35 years was disgraceful. Punitive. And a warning to anyone who dares embarrass the government by exposing criminal actions.

And it was Obama's final day. When Presidents do their gutless pardons.
Why are all you people ignoring the fact he committed a clear crime of stealing documents? Yes he exposed some very dubious actions on the part of the government although not as big as you all make out. But he committed a serious crime to do it. Government would fall a part if everyone just leaked secret documents all the time. There are some very good reasons that secret documents exist.

Sweden not Norway ... there is no way in the world Norway would allow him to be extradited to USA.
Norway has consistently refused to extradite people to the USA.
Crap they have had an extradition treaty inforce since 1980. Extradition generally doesn't happen when the death penalty could be involved. Here apparently were talking about hacking govt computers with a 5 year max sentence, can't see Norway not allowing that.

Thing is, what he published really wasn't that dramatic in the greater scheme of things. It was good gossip, and the war logs put some US translators/informants at risk (they were already at significant risk).

Not like he published genuine military secrets like details on the avionics of the F22, or where US nuke subs sit under the ice for second strike reasons, or technical details on drone comms systems with the satellites that could allow jamming.

Bit melodramatic? He’ll get 5 years max. And deserves every minute of it. Far more deserving martyrs than Julian Assange who’s mistreatment we should get outraged about.

LOL, as if. They'll bullshit about what they want to charge him with to get the extradition, then hit him with espionage charges.

He's doing decades.

As an australian Im allowed to criticise other governments. Theres a law in australia that states I have that right. There is not a law in australia that states I can steal another countries secret documents. You arent comparing like for like.

Can you point me to that law?

So why doesnt he just give up the information they want and walk free.

For a start, it is SHE, and secondly, she says she's already said everything she knows at the court-martial and objects to the secret star chamber nature of grand jury hearings.

Doesn't this highlight the absurdity of Assange hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy for 7 years?

If the US wanted to extraidate Assange in 2012, they would have asked UK to extraidate. The idea that the Swedish extradition was part of some grand conscrpicary to extradite to the US is and has always been ridiculous.

I've never bought into the Swedish conspiracy theory. Sweden are fiercely neutral and independent in military and security matters. They even design and build their own fighter jets at huge cost just so they don't have to rely on foreign sources. To think they'd suddenly jump into shady back door deal with the US of all countries just to prosecute one individual is ludicrous.

Yeah anyone who thinks the charges don’t ratchet up once he’s on US soil are the same dummies who thought extradition to the US was a remote possibility.

They hit him with the extradition charges within a few hours of his arrest. The Swedish charges are now an afterthought.

Yeah, I never believed that either. I reckon we was more concerned about actually being held to account on the rape charges.

I have heard some pretty interesting stories over the journey from people who know Julian.

And he'll be going into the teeth of an election campaign too. He's in a world of shit right now.

Had Assange supported Essendon instead he’d probably be some boring, overweight, frustrated middle class dad with three kids, who drives in from Keilor to a desk job he hates.

Hopefully he’s allowed conjugal visits from Pamela on Guantanamo.

The persecution of Assange is second only to what happened to james Hird imo.

Game of Thrones reference.

Deliberately helping Trump get elected is abhorrent to most people inclined to support what he and WikiLeaks were.

Ahhh, sorry, I'm a grown up and don't do Game of Harry Potter dragons bullshit.
