Newman had a much better game than Plowman yesterday. Plow made some atrocious decisions and doubled down by executing them poorly. Fortunately for him (and us) Weiters and Jones were able to mop up his mess.

Plowman has been poor for some time. He's not overly quick, poor overhead, is out bodied by smaller opponents and often turns the ball over under no pressure. Hard to see how he keeps his spot once we have Doc, Williamson and Macreadie all match fit.

Kennedy > Gibbons IMHO

I hope so too but that wasn't my point...my point was that we have the best VFL mid in our team so why not give him a chance to play there whilst kennedy is getting fitness.....surely he is worth a bash at the centre square at least once...we keep persisting with him as a small forward.....Kane Lambert wasn't played as a permanent small forward at the Tiges after dominating as a ball winner in the VFL.

Haven't watched yesterdays game so maybe a little unfair with ins and outs, but -

Kreuzer for Lobbe - No surprise, although Kreuzer wasn't exactly leaping to any heights yesterday. First game back from injury, so maybe be cautious.
Polson for Gibbons - Polson for all his faults, plays for the team.
Kennedy will come in you'd think, regardless whether Setterfield gets a week or not.
JSilvagni - Every chance after his effort yesterday.

If Cuningham is OK, Just bring in the speed.
Was kreuzer being managed through the game? Or played primary ruck all day? His hit out numbers weren't super

Can someone pls explain to me why Gibbons doesn't get at least a few minutes on the ball after averaging 30 touches last year?? He only kicked 9 goal last year...why are we trying to make him something he isn't?? Everyone crying for Kennedy to get in for mid support and yet we won't even give another proven mid an opportunity...mind boggling
He isn't a proven AFL midfielder. He is a proven VFL midfielder who doesn't look to AFL traits.

How do you know he wont transition into an AFL mid?? Hasn't been given any chance to show it. Playing as a permanent small forward is very to different to his VFL role. AS I have said...Kane Lambert ripped it up in the VFL and wasn't played as a permanent small forward by the Tiges. I just find it mind boggling that he hasn't been tried at all in the centre.

Not talking about the odd lead up forward.....How many times in the centre square???? zero....why recruit the best mid in the VFL and play him as a forward pocket??

He's undersized, he's not quick, and to date this year, he butchers it. I don't see how playing him in the guts is going to help us.

Gibbons did some good things yesterday. could easily have had 2-3 goals with the right rub.
Got caught out mismatched against taller defenders and our forward structure did not adjust.
I think we should persevere. he has the smarts.
Delivery into the forward line was not flash for most of the game.

Not sure any of Doc, Willo or Macreadie play the same role as Plow?

Also, what's your definition of 'often'?

This is a very simplistic approach but here's the current season averages of our main 7 defenders:

Simpson 19.8 disposals, 2.3 turnovers, 11.6% turnover:disposal
Weitering 14.8, 2.3, 15.5%
Plowman 14.5, 2.3, 15.9%
Thomas 19.8, 3.5, 17.7%
Jones 8.8, 1.8, 20.5%
Newman 21.3, 4.8, 22.5%
Marchbank 11, 4.5, 40.9%

Agree except i'd be inclined to give Gibbons another go...he at least generated some scoring opportunities yesterday. Just gotta sort out the forward structure.

We're not getting much from LOB, Setters and Fish. LOB has contributed almost nothing for 2 games now despite playing as a midfielder/winger.
I wouldn't mind seeing Cunners in for LOB or Setters instead.

Having Kreuz, Kennedy and Cunners completely transforms our team, especially in midfield which has been an issue. Should give us more hardness and drive in there, giving our forwards more opportunities.

Hopefully this week we get Kreuz (Lobbe), Kennedy (Casboult), Cuningham (Gibbons), and I'd be also be happy to see Jack, Lang or Willo if he's somehow ready (a week early?).

Guess we just have to wait and see to find out who's actually available, including Gov & Setters.

Jack Silvagni and Kruezer need to come in and I would let Gibbons and Lobbe head back to the VFL.

I think his smarts would be amazing in the VFL, but he hasn't worked out what he is physically incapable of at the higher level.
Perhaps, although I think he just needs time to adjust to AFL, and we have time as the rest of the squad learns to know how to play with each other.
Only his 4th game.
He has the tenacity and you can't train smarts and instinct.

LOB is interesting, do we persist for two or three more or bite the bullet. Happy to go with Gibbons again if Cunners is down there too. Can't handle Gibbons and Ed forward together.

I know Setters hasn't been awesome but its a bit of balancing with him re games under the belt vs effectiveness in game. Fish is going ok but less time in the middle and more time on a flank thanks.

Beveridge would have watched that game and been hoping the Blues got up. Now he will be worried. He knows there is going to be a response, and the media could be talking about the Dog's next week.
We've had media on our heads for a good part of 2 years.... we're still awaiting that response.

Hopefully we don't shoot ourselves in the foot at selection again.

I'd like to see
In Kennedy JSOS Kruezer
Out Lobbe, Cas, Settefield susp or omitted.

Still a tall side tho, and desperately missing Cunners pace.

Kruezer is worth two goals simply by not giving shit frees away constantly and is another mid.
JSOS for pressure around the ball in the fwd line, Can probably swap through the midfield with Gibbons for something different.
Kennedy is a bit harder to justify but I think we need more production. Setters looks off the pace at the moment and is not getting enough possessions to hold his spot.

As mentioned above Gibbons needs some midfield time, there's no substitute for footy smarts. This with the addition of Kennedy lets the lighter frames of Fish , SPS and LOB have a lighter clearance workload.
