Would replace our development coaches first.

The recruiting team is seen as a pretty good one within footy circles.
Thing is, how do you know how good a dev coach is? Brown's in his second year, highly rated before he came over and we won't see the fruits of what he's doing for at least a couple of years yet. Don't know how long Dyer's been in the job, and Bulldog Moore seems pretty switched on.

I do have my doubts about Werribee, and I'm not convinced it's better for development than the dual alignment was. But that too we won't know for at least a couple of years.

So in the 2 drafts gutted by GC and GWS, we picked:

Atley
Harper
C Delaney
Mabon
McKenzie
Curran

Could have had

Prestia or Tom Lynch (GC)
Cam Guthrie
Josh Green
Adam Tomlinson
Eliot Yeo

Our "lack of stars" comes partly from a habit of safe picks for sure, but look at the guys from those drafts coming in to their prime.

And just looking back at those. holy shit what did we do with the 2011 draft?

Agree completely with this. And its why I think we have struggled to turn games/seasons around. (I know there are other factors including a major one in coaching) You do need to get the personality mix right, but there seems to be very few superstar introverts.
Based on this, god help us with Gaff then. He's the most introverted Eagle. I think the comment is a bit over the top fellas.

Played the long game. And it's not just Gubby. Cam knows our needs and what he can do within his control to address them.

Hitting up Polec mid-year was left field and has been rewarded for the gamble.

Huge efforts from everyone.

But I thought Cam Joyce only lands us useless scrubbers like Jed Anderson, Marley Williams, Paul Ahern and Shaun Higgins?

Hope hes learnt a lot from Gubby

Hes been in his role for a very long time
He's moved through the ranks at North. He hasn't been in the same position the entire time.

Joyce and co. deserve 99% of the credit as they got North into this position. Without them there would have been no Gubby as he wouldn't be required.

Despite Zondor 's Ironstein comments Joyce knows his stuff.

Ah i did not know this

Hes done a lot right but i suppose no one can be perfect

People like to piss and moan which is life, but the club is well run, I mean actually well run in a business sense - not plucking footballers from zones for the first time in five or six decades.

To do what they've done with so little is incredible. I sincerely congratulate and thank everyone for their work, and I hope they are rewarded on-field for their efforts.

I've already said it but I truly believe what we're seeing now is showing that we've moved on from survival mode and now have the ability to succeed again.

I've already said it but I truly believe what we're seeing now is showing that we've moved on from survival mode and now have the ability to succeed again.

Its one of the reasons I've thought keeping Scott on was a good idea (even without the stuff about Josh K and BS re signing.)

Having him there during those years post the fight means the club has had stability in the coaching group - head coach is the same. Compare that to clubs that change coaches. Its an obvious signal they are unhappy with the direction they are moving in. Not a good signal to send over the last decade and we didn't send it. That was a good thing.

Now we seem to have other levels of stability besides just the head coach of the senior side - three teams, not one and genuine plans for the future centered on Arden st that are actually happening. And we've had a turnover (to an extent) in the admin. The admin isn't an emergency one - and we've moved past the rescue and the recovery/rebuild stages into one where the "normal things" football clubs do are our only concern.

(Funnily enough that means Scott as coach is no longer necessary for stability. So lets hope he wins us a flag this year coming or the next one cos he deserves real success here after everything that has happened.)

Joyce has done a good job.

People are still looking at this as if it's a player problem, it isn't.

He stays.

I respectfully disagree Snake, he has had a major call on the list over the years and has got a lot of it wrong. Retaining plodders for too long and completely ruining their market value and the balance of the list. All the missed targets, will give him the kudos on the Polec deal though.

Not saying he is the sole reason, but he is apart of the boys club and has played a major role in the mess we find ourselves in. Want him gone personally.

Okay mate.

All things considered, where has he gone wrong over the last 3 seasons, and remember to take in to account players he went after, but couldn't land for reasons beyond his control?

2016

Trades: Ahern, Hrovat & Williams for basically nothing.

Draft: Simpkin (12), Watson (34), Larkey (73) & Zurhaar in the rookie draft

2017

Trades: Went all out on Martin & Kelly and just failed.

Draft: Davies-Uniake (4), Walker (23), Hayden, Xerri, Hartung (60+) & Murphy in the rookie draft

2018

Trades: Polec & Pittard for pick 11/future 4th rounder + pick 48 back (which we would have lost), Tyson & for Preuss and the pick we got for ditching Clarke, Hall for pick 68.

Draft: Thomas, Taylor, Scott and Crocker for 28, 39, 48, 53 and 68 and we managed to turn over our 2019 4th round pick for Brisbane's 4th round pick, so effectively we swapped out pick ~55-57 for 63-65.

Does anyone SERIOUSLY have a problem with this? Is this really a major issue considering all other things? Seriously?

IMO everyone in this "boys club" needs to go regardless. It is a cancer on our club.
