Won't be long before the Byes are upon us, the rounds that separate the men and women from the boys and girls! Your good coaches from your spud coaches! Your simioni11's from your TedDougChris'! (Sorry mate, couldn't resist ;))

Any planning or strategies (that you're willing to share) can go in here and hopefully we can help all the BF crew push up through the ranks.

As a reminder and something to consider, only your best 18 scores are taken. Having a full 22 will give you a better chance, but isn't necessary.

Currently, I have the following number of players for each round (not including my 2 spud bench rucks):
12 - 20
13 - 19
14 - 17

I feel that's a good position at the moment, just need to be careful that my trades over the next few weeks don't alter that significantly.

haha 🤣

12 - 17
13 - 16
14 - 16

Not looking too good but i should be able to squeeze 17s in there by the time it comes around

These numbers seem a bit low, are you including your bench players?

After planned trades next few weeks (not including dud ruck bench)

12 - 20
13 - 20
14 - 16

Main goal is always try to weight it heavier towards the last bye. With round 12 & 13 trades will have 20 playing in round 14 barring injury, effectively having 20/20/20 playing across the 3. Usually manage to rise significantly in rank over byes setting it up this way.

Currently got:

Round 12 - 20
Round 13 - 20
Round 14 - 16

Will change a bit as I make upgrades/downgrades in the next few weeks but I’d love to keep the structure roughly how it is now. As kozi says above, weighting things towards the last bye is usually a solid strategy.

Good strategy.....do you consider the amount of premos/bye or just wing it considering ther 2 worst scores drop off?

Currently
18
21
16

Nah it’s not worth it for mine. The way I see it the goal is a good structure without compromising your team. Hard enough as it is getting to 20/20/20 without making any compromises, once you start worrying about the number of premos v rooks I’ve found that’s when you really start picking players for the wrong reasons. Considering the worst 2 scores drop off anyway the potential tiny gain isn’t worth the downside of further effecting which players you pick.

yeah....I'm confused enough just dealing with the byes (not mentioning life, family, home)

I currently have:

Round 12: 9
Round 13: 10
Round 14: 11

But each week I have two non-playing ruckmen, so it’s more like 11, 12 and 13.

Missing players that is....

I don't know if saying how many players out gives an accurate description of teams availability over the byes.

I, for instance, prefer to look at my team by seeing how many per line are unavailable.

So for Round 12: 3 on field positions aren't covered, so fielding 19
Round 13: 2 not covered, fielding 20
Round 14: 6 not covered, fielding 16

Fairly happy with that weighting for now cos I can use those 3 trades/round to build to 22 playing for rounds 13 and 14. Hopefully I can stick to this strategy and not **** my team up like I did last year. It's a real bonus having the worst 4 scores drop off if you field 22.

*edit........I'm also trying to eliminate as many rooks off the field whilst ensuring playing rooks on the bench. A lot of coaches also look at how many premos are available for each round and try to have a 'complete' team coming out of the byes. I'm trying a different strategy and I'm hoping to have a 'complete' going into the byes. May not work out but I'm giving it a go.

Fair comments, and I know I have an issue some weeks in the midfield - but given we are a few weeks out, I cannot really predict who will be available - just look at last years carnage over the bye period...

It’s the starting point for discussion and analysis on our bye plans...

Can't remember who it was (probably multiple people) but I remember last year someone going into the bye rounds with some serious bank behind them. If I recall correctly, it helped them massively - also because they were able to avoid a lot of the carnage using all that coin

I usually try to build a bank leading into byes but not too excessive. I reckon it’s a balance between having decent funds but not so much that you’re taking away on field points in the lead up.

Excluding my ruck reserves Fort and Sweet (bonus if either get named through the byes but I'll assume they won't), currently:

Week 12 - 18 starters
Week 13 - 19 starters
Week 14 - 19 starters

I've got a couple of Rd12 rookies who will be moved on, which will boost that number. Means I'll be targeted R14 rookies as tradeins.

Thought I was doing ok here with 9 players missing round 12, 11 in Round 13 and 10 in Round 14...

Unfortunately, I currently have 4 forwards missing round 12, 4 defenders missing round 13 and 5 mids missing round 14. Some work to do...
