Putting a no hope candidate on House of Representatives ballot is an ad for the Senate candidates.

I realise that but Vic is different, don't think they would go for Palmer. Hard to break the hold held by Libs/Labor/Greens.

Ricky Muir was the last person to be voted in and he was much more likeable.

Muir wasn't voted in, he was a Drury default option who lucked out.

Palmer will be working the phones behind the scenes to secure preferences for funding, nothing surer.
 
As with his first Parliament run you've got to look at what benefit the Fat campaignerroller stands to gain. He couldn't give a ****ing toss about us general plebs, it's all about Clive and how things will affect his bottom line.

Kind of reminds me of the Liberal, Labor and Greens Parties.
 
Palmer has a candidate in Wills, seems he may get back some of his expenditure on advertising if he has a candidate in a lot of seats. Taxpayer money!

Entitlement to election funding

A candidate or Senate group is eligible for election funding if they obtain at least 4% of the formal first preference vote in the division or the state or territory they contested. The maximum amount that can be paid is calculated by multiplying the number of votes obtained by the current election funding rate. This rate is indexed every six months to increases in the Consumer Price Index.

Amount paid

As soon as practicable 20 days after polling day, the AEC will pay all eligible candidates and Senate groups an amount of $10,000. This amount is indexed every six months on 1 January and 1 July to increases in the Consumer Price Index.

For entitlements greater than this amount, eligible candidates and Senate groups will need to submit a claim setting out their electoral expenditure. Funding will only be paid if the AEC is satisfied that the claimed electoral expenditure is accurate and unique.

Registered political parties, candidates and Senate groups will be entitled to receive the lesser of:

  • The amount of claimed expenditure; and
  • The amount calculated by multiplying the number of votes by the current election funding rate.

Here are some of the various amounts that parties received in 2016.

Libs - $24M
Labor- $23M
Greens-$6.7
ON -$1.7

While I was eating breakfast in the mess this morning, they had a replay of, I think Wednesday's edition of The Drum on, and they were talking at length about Palmer. I couldn't hear any of it but they had the closed captions turned on so I could read.

I don't know what has been worse, Palmer's shit adds full of flat out falsehoods or the panel on The Drum talking about why Palmer is being supported and what they think, that voters are thinking about the adds and Palmer himself. They spoke almost as much shit has the adds.

In the end it seemed to boil down to, 'He's spending $50m so he's guaranteed to get something out of it'.

IMO, it's a monumental waste of $50m. I look at him and can't think of who is slimier, him or Mal Colston.

I would not have the foggiest. There's so much made up stuff in his ads that I wouldn't know where to start. Maybe as someone posted earlier, Nth Qld.

I did live in FNQ for a couple of years in the mid to late 90s and they used to mention succession every now and then. Maybe it's all those people.

I guess if people want their say but don't like any of the mainstream candidates but want to actually vote and not submit one with a **** and some balls draw on it, then they vote for this slimy, slug.

We'll find out I guess, polling has become less and less reliable over the last 5 to 10 years.
