Once the lazys kick in, you can literally be INSIDE the gym and you still won't train.

I'm not judging him. It can take almost 6 weeks to start seeing visible results from working out. That's a hard sell when you're starting from zero.

Stringing together a block of consistent lifting is a tough grind.

I feel his pain. I need to just start exercising after reaching a plateau in dieting but I'm so damn lazy.

Once I am at he gym, I am usually ok.

My issue is that i'll do the core workout, and then I will start messing around with other exercises just to try other machines/techniques etc.

Getting out of the gym in 60 mins doesn't feel right to me.

I do squats first each workout and I detest them. They are the one thing that almost makes me want to miss a day but I persist. Once I am through them I am good to go for the rest of the session.

I actually had to cut my squat session short today due to patella pain, disappointing after such a long and successful deadlift session on Tuesday.

Still managed calf raises, some light leg press & treadmill time after a hell of a lot of stretching / foam rolling. Annoying though.

My last session was 40 minutes of back squats. Absolutely smashed them out hit a PB easy and kept going, love sessions like that

I am no longer liking them. My legs are just not like they used to be. I used to feel I could keep raising the weight...now i just end up trying to get out of the hole for 2 reps in between front squats and zerchers.

Interesting article that.

When I tell people I lost 10 kilograms and put on muscle, I can now say "Adipose tissue" like I know what I'm talking about, instead of "I was a fat **** when I started."

I'm guessing that only works once though. The next 10 kg drop will see some muscle loss. And each progressive drop will get worse and worse.

Anyone else get tired of ignorant folk who think they're afforded more rights at the gym than others?

The other day, I arrived at my gym preparing to do dumbbell press. Spotted the only remaining flat bench - with nothing but a towel on it.

I stood in the corner for 5mins or so stretching with my eyes on it, no activity to speak of. I walk over, ask the guy using the one next to it if the said towel was his? Nope. Then plods over this (50yrs ish approx) chicken legged barrel chested little man.. "that's mine mate". I said no, you're not using it. He said "yes I am, I was just over there for 5 seconds". I disputed that of course, then he had a big cry and walked off... I said with a smile on my face, "it's not gym etiquette to do that" as he walked.

I'm no a-hole, but I am an assertive, well built male. I didn't just walk up and throw his towel, I waited more than enough time, then asked the nearest gym member before intending to move the towel. This occupying several bits of equipment at a time idea REALLY annoys me. If you think you need to do this, at least exercise when the place is empty! Rude and inconsiderate.

In my 15 years of going to the gym, I've only ever had issues with the older blokes and women (not young) in this regard. The young guys seem easily the most respectful of others, not to mention happiest to assist each other. Many of the older blokes seem to carry an attitude.

Just curious of other opinions on this. :thumbsu:

That is correct, higher protein diet, resistance training and small calorie deficits are the best way to minimise muscle loss.

While I'm a huge dead lift enthusiast, never was a big fan of squats. Probably because it irritates one of my knees.

I stopped squatting, I went heavy on 2 variations of leg press (plate loaded) instead. Simulated squat depth (unlike most people on these machines), legs shoulder width, feet slightly angled. 2 years in I've gotten much better quad development. I have the confidence to go harder without concern of my back / knees.

I dispute that I'm missing out by dropping squats too, know why? Several times I've returned to do a squat routine instead, expecting to get horrid DOMS... never happens. If squats hit something the leg press wasn't, I'd feel it. And I get just awful leg DOMS, even if I miss 1 week and leave a 2 week gap between leg workouts, sitting on and getting off the toilet is

Just my experience but something to consider.
