Yup, mixed in with the 7th best attack so far. Numbers a bit skewed by the big win over Norf. But it bodes well, good to see

Sort our defence and the attack will follow

Please explain!!!! How is our defence in need of sorting!! Pearce, been brilliant,Hamling almost impassable, Ryan as good an intercept mark as any,Wilson has been serviceable.Cerra doing well.
Not saying that Logue wont be handy but.... getting it sorted!!!!!

I think he is stating what the rebuild strategy has been.

What is to be sorted though.Other than maybe Logue coming in.Didn't the article say our defence so is the best in the competition?
I think he is saying exactly that. First get the defence sorted (as we did), and the attack follows (as is happening). He is speaking of what has come before.

Photos were great.
Just as well Tabs is a tough nut. Did this punch to the head get reported?

Only got to see the full game last night because Easter.

The things that impressed me the most were:

- our ability to control the ball (at times) as we transitioned from defence into attack. We just took so much pressure off ourselves because we actually used the ball effectively
- Walters was just awesome.
- Tucker is really making a fist of things. Last year I was thinking that Tucker would end up being pretty vanilla but he is showing signs that he can consistently get his hands dirty
- Tabs' marking was awesome. When he gets deep, he looks dangerous. If he could actually kick those goals then he would be the form forward of the competition
- Switta showed plenty as a defensive forward

Expecting a strong win this week. We should be able to dominate their midfield and create plenty of scoring opportunities.

I have felt that this was the season that Darcy Tucker needed to stamp himself as best 22.
The fact that we needed another dependable midfielder in Connor’s absence , just created the opportunity
For him to do precisely that.
Darcy Tucker is one of our high quality kicks.
I thought he was announcing his arrival last year and needed to put it beyond dispute that he is a certain best 22 player.
There’s no doubt he has done that and right when we needed it.

Tucker had 26 at 88% which surprised the hell out of me. As others have said, he’s really stepped it up this season.

All those players from those 2014-2017 drafts are really showing signs, it could be that they’ve had 3 preseasons to build their fitness and understand the game plan.

Tucker, Ed, Pearce, Ryan, Cox, Blakely, Darcy, Switta, Banfield, Logue, AB and Cerra all there or there abouts in our B22.

Darcy’s first appearance for us was against Richmond at Mandurah in a pre season game.
I saw in that game a potential outsider mid with a beautiful raking left foot but, something happened.
I had him pegged as that classic wing and flanker who would link us up beautifully.
He has probably been in that range of best 20 to 24. There’s little doubt about his importance to this team now.
Opportunity knocked with a cry for a quality user in the midfield and he just went bang; that’s mine, so much so that we now find ourselves in the fortunate position of being able to re-deploy Connor Blakely.

Tucker is playing exactly where his skills have the highest value.

Didn't get a chance to watch it until this morning.

Positives:
- I hope everyone realises how lucky we are to get to watch Fyfe week in week out. Hands down the best player in the competition.
- Taberner worked all bloody day. Great effort from him, he led from the front.
- Can you hear that........CLICK. That's Hogan, just figuring stuff out. I said earlier this year that we could very much have a year like 2012 when it took a while for us to figure stuff out. It feels like we are ahead of that.
- Walters. Bloody brilliant when kicking inside 50.
- Matera. 4 goals, almost as if he is no good until he has someone to crumb off. Love his goal sense.
- The forward line not all competing for the same ball, all the time. Seems we aren't over committing like previously.
- Backline just ticking over, Pearce and Hamling looking like PICs for years to come. Luke Ryan jonesing for Brownlow votes.
- Mundy. Class.
- Tucker, thought he was delist material last year, is looking right at home.
- Langdon, just getting himself some extra cash. I'll be annoyed if he goes. Proof that Ross Lyon can in fact develop youth.
- Colyer & Conca. Not guaranteed best 22 week in week out but IMO make our beat 22 better overall, especially in comparison to what we had in 2013.
- Luke Ryan. If I had a daughter I probably would be unimpressed if she brought him home but what a bloody good footballer.
- Young boys continue to develop.
- Cox was good, hit packs and did lots of 1%ers around the contest
- List seems to be in a good place regardless of what they do with the coaching role 2020 and beyond.

Negatives:
- Brayshaw, seems to have stagnated a bit. Possibly mental after being coward punched by Andrew Gaff? Decision making and tackling intent seems down significantly (calm down, just an observation).
- Wilson, seems very despondent at times. Lethargic. Not breaking lines and being as attacking as previous.
- The Negative viewpoint people seem to take about footy. If you don't enjoy it, go for a run. Get some fresh air. This season is great to watch, not just for Freo. How good is it not knowing how a result is going to go?

And while I'm at it........

The Media can EAD. Really need a bit more diversity in the media, the coverage of "2nd teir" clubs is disgraceful.

Sick of hearing about Geelong / Hawthorn / Collingwood / Richmond. Even West Coast aren't given their due and they won the flag last year.

Can Walters surprise & be a high vote getter for Charlie ya reckon? He's a noticeable bloke on field and can get his hands on the ball a good bit sometimes
Matera playing so well as a crumbling forward as well as Switta coming into the team is really important to us because it has the flow on effect of letting Walters move into the midfield. I used to prefer sonny as a pure forward but I’ve come round, the midfield role gets one of our most damaging ball users into the game and he still knows how to drift forward to the right spots and score.

this is the year Sonny makes the AA team, calling it now. I was also in the boat that preferred him primarily fwd but I severely underestimated how many goal opportunities he could still manufacture as an on-baller. Is there another player who does more with their touches? Buddy maybe, who else? Currently on track to average 20 & 2 and I can see him maintaining it too, provided his body holds up.

I would like to see him physically protected/managed, especially if we have younger players deserving a debut. Can serve a dual purpose.

I am not sure that Jesse Hogan is getting enough credit for our forward play at the moment.
He opens space for the other forwards. He uses his big body to move opposition players off the ball.He creates with clever hand ball.I know that he hasn't kicked a bag full yet, but that is only a matter of time.
As I said I think his contribution has been under stated.

Interesting to note that Tom McDonald has looked a shadow of his former self at the Dees without Hogan. And both McCarthy and Taberner are above their career goals per game average in the games they have played with Hogan.
Small sample size though!

Dunstall and Lockett would struggle to get a kick with the Demon's forward delivery at the moment. I am sure Jesse wouldn't hurt but couldn't see him making a big difference to their plight.

Maybe not to their plight. But maybe McDonald would have more than 2 goals. Like I said small sample size. If at the end of the year, Tabs and Dardy have career best years and McDonald is still languishing, someone should start up a "The Jesse Hogan Effect" thread.

Oh, inbetween all the threads about us playing finals.

Just watched the highlights on youtube and there are two things I noticed:

1. The highlights are very biased towards GWS.

2. Are Cox and Ryan BFF's? What the hell is going on with this bleached hair thing? It's like the 90's again.
Yeah but at least Fyfe's got his proper hair back.

Taberner's killing it this year. He's also getting free from his man a ton. Could have had four more shots on goal last week against west coast if our kicking was better than woeful into the forward fifty. Believe it or not a consistently clueless poster on here said we should drop him for cox last week. All he has to do is get over his yips and you've got one of the best key forwards in the afl if he keeps his current form up.
Currently averaging 18.2 possessions 8.6 marks and 2 goals a game. He's also improved his ground work a heap and is averaging 2.8 tackles a game. He's actually 19th for tackles inside the forward fifty. So much for being terrible at forward pressure. Second in the afl for contested marks and 5th for marks overall.
It's music to the ears ain't it.
