I agree. But there are the distinctive themes that make it interesting e.g. today Melbourne fans had a bit going about whether shipping Hogan off matters. I don't bring that up to discuss that trade, rather to say it's not all rinse and repeat.

Yes it sure is interesting and themes do vary slightly. However, you replace Hogan with Wingard or Polly and it is similar to Melbourne with Hogan and I see when teams are doing poorly supporters on every club forum melt about selections, gold passes.

That fine is a drop in the ocean to a wealthy club like Essendon. If it wins them a game by ruffling the oppo coach and players’ feathers and impacts any planning they might have done, then gets their season back on track, it was worth every cent.

But there is nothing to be understood. "Can we bring Daniher in?" The answer is a simple 'no.' There are emergencies EXACTLY for this reason, and AFL has even ADDED a fourth one recently. However, AFL's answer to Essendon's request was "yes, but it will cost you AU$20k."

The fact is that this is North being absolutely unable to enforce a rule before AFL's corrupt connivance to Essendon's cheating. We know that AFL is absolutely unfair, but that doesn't make it less sad or any easier to accept.

The worst is that Essendon had no need to do it. They would win anyway. Their mascot should be Dick Dastardly: winning is worthless, unless you cheat.
