Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew of a podcast series detailing the history of our game? There’s obviously plenty of stories to be told anda truck load of research and time that would have to go into something like this. Anyone know of any? Cheers

Was going to say The Greatest Season that was -1993 which is on Spotify.
If your interested in making one of be very interested.

I recently heard Danny McGinlay on “They came to play” a few weeks back, and he was talking about the rivalry between Richmond and Collingwood (I think) and I thought it was quite interesting and there has got to be so many stories from footy to talk about. Would be cool to be able to listen to a podcast go through the entire history of the game either decade by decade or team by team.

That kicktokick one sounds like what I’m talking about, definitely going to give it a listen. Same with the Greatest Season one. In an ideal situation some legend out there with all the time in the world would do an epic one including audio from commentators and press conferences along with interviews. Would pay good money for that but it would probably be a full time job for someone haha. Thanks for the recommendations!

only the 1993 greatest season one but it's fantastic

You could try http://kicktokick.podbean.com/ which has been methodically going through every League year episode by episode. They're up to 1925
Bloody legend. Cannot wait to listen to this series, now I am aware it exists. Downloading to have some great podcasts for next few months to listen to in the car.

Not a podcast the wookie

He was too humble to say so above, but Rhett Bartlett has an excellent podcast called Roar. It's interviews with Richmond people - ex-players, the people who started the cheer squad, administrators etc.

Maybe not exactly what the OP was asking for, and comes with some caveats - it's just Rhett and someone else talking, often recorded on the phone or by tape recorder. You have to be able to at least tolerate Richmond. It's personal stories and minutae, not often 'big picture' history.

But I bloody love it. I listened to one this morning. An old bloke who captained the u19s at Richmond to their first premiership in 1958, telling stories about his everyday life that gave me a real sense of what football was like then.

I appreciate the kind words Running Bounce.
For those wondering, my Richmond history podcast is here: https://soundcloud.com/roarpodcast
or you can subscribe through iTunes or Spotify etc - just search Roar Richmond Rhett

These guys have just started a new one focused on the failed Fitzroy Bulldogs merger of 1989. It continues in the same RSS feed so no need to search or subscribe to a new podcast. First episode was with Denis Galimberti, Footscray CEO who resigned when the merger was announced and leaked it to the media.

They also did one on the 99 cricket world cup but I haven't listened to that.

Really OT but if you like sports history, the Rugby League Digest is brilliant especially how in-depth they go into the Super League War. A footy equivalent would be incredible!!!
