If we’re competing with Carlton ad St Kilda for Cogs services it’s not really a fair fight is it.

Hawthorn, St Kilda and Carlton among clubs circling in-demand free agent Stephen Coniglio JAY CLARKHERALD SUN APRIL 25, 2019 This year’s top free agency target Stephen Coniglio will have crucial talks on his future next month as clubs including Hawthorn, St Kilda and Carlton circle. Coniglio, 25, has bolstered his reputation as one of the best two-way midfield runners in the game as part of a blistering start to the season. Greater Western Sydney remains confident Coniglio will re-sign on a long-term deal to stay at the club after previously inking a series of two-year contracts. The Giants will look for an indication on a likely decision mid-year and will consider ramping up contingency plans if Coniglio continues to hold off on a new deal in the second half of the season. But Hawthorn looms large in the chase for Coniglio and has a strong link to the gun ballwinner through his best mate and potential future Hawks’ captain Jaeger O’Meara. Greater Western Sydney star Stephen Coniglio and Hawk Jaeger O'Meara are best mates from their WA days. St Kilda could offer a godfather deal, with former GWS list manager and expert deal-maker Graeme Allan set to spearhead the Saints’ bid to land the brilliant ballwinner. The Saints have the cap space to offer a mega deal after missing out on new Bomber Dylan Shiel last year, while they will attempt to keep Jack Steven to his 2020 contract. Coniglio, from Western Australia, has put off any decision on his future but is expected to revisit the situation with the Giants next month, in the lead-up to the mid-year bye. The Giants have the salary cap space to keep Coniglio and superstar teammate Josh Kelly on $1 million-a-year packages, although big man Jon Patton may be one to leave the club.

Given Coniglio is only 25, there’s nothing stopping him signing on for 2-3 years and moving as a FA later. GWS are as good a chance as any of a flag over next 2-3 years, would be a strange career move to leave now (as much as he would be great for the hawks). Just can’t see it.

One strategy that I hear is in play, is perhaps trade up (if necessary) two first round picks (2019&2020) to get as high as possible in this draft, take two players or one like a Noah and perhaps a high second after we spend our second on Finn Maguiness. Try and grab Cogs as FA, and perhaps a Thompson as a FA. Somehow trade for a Patton.

Looks like Thompson is off the table as a FA - just signed a 4 year extension with GC .

WTF Zak Jones? Wouldn’t even get a game for us.. leave him to be a ‘big fish’ for spud clubs like St.Kilda or North

What this guy said, there is no way that I'd be comfortable having this guy on the list.

Not to mention the ridiculous price that we would no doubt need to cough up in a trade.

He's done nothing close to justifying a mid 1st Round Selection which is no doubt what they'll be seeking.

Let the rabbles maul each other for his services while we swoop in and land the likes of Coniglio and/or Crouch.
