Surprised to see the defence as a B overall, given how its been our strongest line this season IMO. I guess Barrass’ omission does hurt it in a big way.

Yeah, Barrass there instead of Schofield gets the rating up to A and not far from A+.

The ratings provided for defence, forward and midfield are in context with the rest of the competition. At the moment in the league (possibly due to tactical factors and cyclical trends) there are far more highly ranked defenders than forwards. This causes the current situation where in order to have an A grade rating in defence you require more highly ranked players there than you do to gain an equivalent rating in the forward line.

Hickey's continued rise brings him to a B.

Pretty much everyone else apart from Sheppard and McGovern is losing ground.

Indirectly they are as CD have a near-monopoly upon the data-gathering of statistics in AFL.

However, they are independent from CD's rating system. The ratings here are derived from my own system that utilises the following:

• Positional Type: Defender (Playing Tall), Defender (Playing Small), Midfielder (Outside), Midfielder (Onball), Forward (Playing Tall), Forward (Playing Small), Ruckman.

• Statistics: Goals, Metres Gained, Disposals, Marks, Tackles, Hit Outs, Goal Assists, Inside 50s, Clearances, Rebound 50s, Contested Possessions, Disposal Efficiency, Contested Marks, One-Percenters, Score Involvements, Interceptions, Tackles In 50, Kicks, Uncontested Possessions, Effective Disposals.

Three outs and three lesser replacements, this the lowest ranked squad of the season thus far.

Improvement onfield by the midfield is likewise seeing an improvement their respective rankings.

Three of the five A++ rated players in the competition are Eagles: Hurn, McGovern and Shuey.

The ratings look so good once I turn off injuries and put Nic Nat and Barrass in. Replace 2 x 'D' rank players for 2 'A+' rated players.
