Opinion First Choice Ruck - Pitto vs TDK

I don't think Pitt played a bad game, the free kicks were a bit stiff in my view. However when TDK when into the centre square we dominated clearances and he got a few himself

Thing is, TDK doesn't have the endurance to play first ruck for a long period of time like Pitto does. And over the course of a game, Pitto's bash and crash is useful to wear them down and compliments our tough mids...he adds to that unit to make it a formidable, physical unit. I don't think TDK would have the same impact as main first ruck as he does now as the second, Pitto's hard work helps him do his thing.

Pitto is also quite good at linking up in general play and is a better kick than TDK.

I think Pitto had a good game, and if it wasn't for the free kicks against (some were a bit harsh), I'd say he had a great game.

In the end, they worked well as a tandem so don't see any reason to change it.

I don’t mind Gonzo. He’s serviceable. TDK has the flare and the dynamic leap which makes him NicNat Ike in that sense, but can’t sustain the top dog role for the whole game and is still learning the body on body aspect. TDK’s ability to play forward means we can carry both, however he really needs to work on his kicking (and I’m not forgetting the howler from Pitto in front of goal)

Wouldn't mind if TDK missed a Carlton premiership due to suspension...

Pittonet hitting the post from a metre out doesn’t work well in his favour.

I would prefer TDK to take over and have a pinch hitter like JSOS or McGovern be the back up

If TDK is allowed to walk to another club it would be a travesty.

a player really wants out, he/she usually gets out - we get our trade of players or picks and move on - the original player becomes the opposition and people mouth platitudes like "I wish them well"..........
Players leave clubs all the time, for all sorts of reasons. I rarely begrudge the ones that leave Carlton. It happens, don't take it personally.

But the key is to not have key players want to leave in the first place. That's a combination of success, opportunities, list management, culture etc.

Hopefully we nail those and the inevitable turnover is minimised and we don't lose key pieces along the way

Pitto was absolutely brilliant last night. Dominated and bullied English. Is happy to link up and be part of the handball chain at stoppages and the players are happy to use him.

Does a lot of team things - Uses his big frame to put blocks on for teammates and runs both ways. Really happy for him.

TDK is developing nicely. Probably playing 25% on ball, 50% forward and 25% bench. Needs to clunk a few more marks and improve his kicking but is a very good back-up ruck at the moment.

Very happy with the 2 ruck set up so far..

They will both play in the team, I expect Pittonet to play first ruck more often than not, two developing young ruckmen, neither has sewn anything up.

My thoughts haven't changed much since October.

I know I shouldn't quote myself but hey, this could turn out to be the only thing that I look like getting right in a whole year, I'm taking it :tearsofjoy:

We need both in the team as neither is good enough to carry the ruck themselves and we cannot afford to have Jack as the back up.
Also because we are short down back Young can’t really provide the relief.

I think Tom still has a lot to offer. I just don't think it's as first ruck. Ever. Yes, he's still young, but I just don't see it.
Agree completely.
Long term I see him as an uber athletic David Hale type, B grade forward, C grade ruck.
There's a lot of improvement to go yet with Tom but hopefully today's game cools some of the excessive hype & cuts the drivel about ruckmen being largely interchangeable.

On a separate note, given how many on here rated TDK ahead of Pittonet based on nothing of any real substance- perhaps the digs at Jimmae are a little misplaced.

Many here rated TDK well above Pittonet. I think today showed he has a very long way to go to be considered a number one ruck.
