He may have presented completely differently
And our footy director still recommended him to the board
I don't think the necessary learnings were on Voss's behalf..
Do you have any evidence of this? Voss had 3 years in a system where they went deep into finals and he was the lead assistant, effectively coaching. I would suggest this contributed significantly to his learning curve. He would say the same. 3 more years of Voss does not equate to this level of success 3 years earlier. The previous regime did what they needed to do: continued growth, eliminate debt and grow the profile of Ikon and Carlton. Record membership would suggest they succeeded.

A few observations:
  • Cripps metres gained numbers are off the charts. He is triggering our high possession game, monstering opponents and should be gaining even further if he was awarded even a third of the arm around holding frees that forwards benefit from when he is around the contest.
  • Weitering is frequently our exit option when we slow the tempo. Says a lot about his temperament and skill as a big. In my opinion he is the most important defender in the comp.
  • Docherty has been freed to roam across the back half ala his All Australian year due to our team defensive focus. Makes him extraordinarily potent as a running option
  • Williams and Saad deserve a hell of a lot of credit for their defensive/rebound capacity in a smaller defensive unit.
  • Setterfield has found a home on the wing. He and Jack are crucial as clever, contest options from half back onwards.
  • I was wrong about Pitto. thylacine60 I hope I’m wrong about LOB too.
  • I was also wrong about King, H and Charlie forward, largely because of Tom.
  • Was mentioned earlier, hard to pick who the bottom 6 even are. Lovely!

Pitto and TDK is the perfect competition right now. Pitto is the crash and bash, wear them down guy who can move around the ground and take solid marks too. He's decent in every part of the game - Reminds me a lot of [PLAYERCARD]Ben McEvoy[/PLAYERCARD]. His tapeork has been exquisite and his fitness is good.

Then TDK is the wildcard - athleticism, excitement flair. Most second rucks around the league are either hybrids or plodders and he just jumps over the top, and if Pitto does the bulk of the work he can take over in the last quarter against tired opponents too.

One of Melbourne's strengths last year was a complementary ruck combo and we've got our own going now.

Just because it can’t be emphasised enough, George Hewett = Absolute Gun.
Listening to Tadhg Kennelly on the 774 call tonight who said his attention to detail was out of control at the Swans. Went on to say his influence at Carlton with regard to his discipline, professionalism and effort will be incredible. He wanted out as he was being played down back and we offered him midfield.

I'm hoping very much we've also learnt some humility.

And I don't mean we shouldn't enjoy this moment, but fundamentally it was hubris that set us on our path all those years ago, and I'll be f’ed if I wanna walk that way again.
We can strut again... we just have to remember the last 20 years! And we have to remember what the old boys club did to the club!

Never again!

Watching the replay again one word comes to mind about Carlton - STRENGTH.

For years, albeit during a rebuild, we have been monstered - North eve made us look like boys. i remember watching the great Geelong side of 2007-2011 run out and how big they all were - Scarlett, Ottens, Chapman, [PLAYERCARD]Max Rooke[/PLAYERCARD].

We are starting to have that look about us now.

Ok … giving a warning for what’s to come over the next couple of hours …..

Hav3 started to watch the replay again with another rather expensive bottle of red. I have built up a decent collection of reds over the years waiting for the Blues to finally get good as I have always promised myself a good red after a win watching the replay. Let’s just say 20 years of buying and not much drinking has left the cellar full.

But now drinky time has arrived!

so tonight I’ve opened a Church Road Merlot Cabernet 2018 and must say it’s a lovely drop.

Quarter way through after the first quarter and just want to say …. I fargin love my blue boyzzzzzzz!

What a great first quarter, so much pressure and we came to play! Only mistake was Harry not giving a great hand pass to Charlie for a simple goal. Dogs played well we played better.

Ok …. Finished watching the second quarter and polished off th3 whole bottle … gonna refrain from posting now cause it’s gonna get weird how 1 man can pleasure himself so much with just him, an empty bottle of red and a CFC replay …. Think about it … so many ways it’s possible.

Good night …. Go baggers

a 1996 grange waiting for the next flag....didnt think it would become a vintage

Will try that again
A 1996 grange hermitage bought in that year waiting to be drunk when we win our next flag....didnt think it would become an antique

Yes I too have a grange for that, I won’t lie I almost opened one up when we beat RFC but luckily stopped myself and got a much cheaper red. Was already rolling and luckily had a moment of clarity.

Stull would have been worth it! Almost 😜
