Unpopular opinion - he's not a great mark.
I think he's real benefit is his surprising agility and class when the ball hits the deck.
On a few occasions he got both mits to the ball, even once when it bounced off his chest

Most likely it's confidence. He's building. He used to be pre injury. Not sure what's going on now. Maybe an upper body niggle.

reckon he’s got his mojo back cos he’s not tying his hair up
Not a good contested mark at all and never has been. Maybe on the lead or coming in from the side - which I wouldn’t consider contested. He used to be pre injury. Not sure what's going on now. Maybe an upper body niggle.
Held my breath when he went offwhen nature calls, i suppose.
Held my breathe when I went in after him.Held my breath when he went off
That was my joke..you know by pretending to be worried about an inj…don’t worryHeld my breathe when I went in after him.
I’ll see myself out
The main stuff and obvious stuff that you want a key forward to be good at, he struggled yesterday with (Eg: Marking)
But I think his ground work and follow up work is deceptively good for a “key forward” or at least someone his size. And it’s something as a forward mix we need to be aware of, when we’re also playing Wright, Stinger and Langford (the latter 2 okay when the ball hits the deck offensively, but aren’t providing a lot in terms of pressure).
It’s particularly notable if we do what I assume we’ll do in the next week or 2, and drop him for Draper to play 2 rucks.
Wright, Draper, Stringer, Langford is just asking for the ball to get strolled out of there.
Suspect it'll be Taylor, with Buckley on Wright and Idun on LangfordMaybe Conor Idun goes to Jones this week. Another tough match up.
He still has 2MP, Langford and Package who would all attract better defenders than he would.Really seemed to miss Draper in the side.
Much better as the 2nd/3rd man up and as a spacer then as the tall establishing the contest
Hmm, Idunno about that.Maybe Conor Idun goes to Jones this week. Another tough match up.

If he gets the second best tall defender then he needs to be able to deal with that.
it’s less about defender quality and more about skillset.
In this case the skillset is having the strength to set up and hold a drop zone as a tall. Aka what McKay does on defence.
Wright/Langford/Jones are all leading forwards who thrive in motion and struggle as a stationary target.
Jake can be a stationary target but he’s far too small and weak to hold a zone against a player 10cm taller then him
Draper has the size and strength to be able to play that role in a way that no one at Essendon has been capable of since Hooker was there years ago
Take your point and I could be wrong but I though he was largely up and back as per usual on Saturday night.
Did you think he was playing a different role to what he has been?
He’s no good at it, but would think Wright would be the one asked to fill that gap.
