Chom got beaten one game after playing back for 5 mins of his career and he's a dud backman eh?..

Was this not his first game back after injury last year against the eventual premiers and his first ever crack at a KPB role?..


Yes Joe the Goose Daniher kicked 5 in that game but Chom was playing alongside Corr (was ok) and LMac (was poo) as other KPD's.

He's still got a long way to go but gee, guys like Harris-Andrews, Micky Martyn, Dustin Fletcher and SOS all had bags kicked on them and I don't remember any of them had a defensive debut like our man..

How about we give him a decent crack at it before putting him under the guillotine?..

It's not just because of his defensive loss rates. It's also because he could fill a gaping hole that we're currently trying to fill with a 32 year old antivaxxer

For me it’s the complete lack of understanding what he needs to do as a defender. It’s intercept or bust for him and if he’s going to play down there he needs to be able to effectively spoil better than he is at present.

I reckon at his best, he could become what Oliver was at his peak. Similar players with similar builds and attributes.

Hope you are right. To me they are very different physically. Without checking stats I’d put Oliver around 185+. TP is on the smaller side around 180 isn’t he? Oliver plays pretty brutally too, not something we’ve seen from Tom as yet.

Ok, play him back. If it works out, remind me again why we sold the farm and then some for Will.I.am Dawson and Matlock?

I get that. And I don’t expect the world.

I was ok with Fay giving him a bath due to choms inexperience.

But that game against west coast really sticks in my throat. Allen didn’t beat him with experience or even one vs one. He won west coast the game because Chom didn’t want to stand next to him and defend him.

And that’s what I’ve seen this pre season again. Chom just worried about intercepting. Now maybe that’s the directive given he’ll finally be accompanied with Corr and Logue. But it’s dangerous for defenders not to know that stopping their man first is no 1 priority.

Sorry Chippie I hope we find a backman that never gets beaten while learning their craft.

I’m sure Will I am and Matlock will have a strike rate for their whole career once we give them a job on the big forwards of the comp.

The backline coach needs to earn their money teaching our young KPB how to defend 1v1 and the midfield coach needs to earn double that by having our mids put half an ounce of pressure with the ball waltzing out of the guts when we don’t get first use..

So he didn't. Well I feel a bit silly as I have based most of my Chom forward shenanigans based on that game. I'm going to reassess my standing in the community and hope to have a big preseason. JFC.

I think that Chom will eventually be a forward long term. With the development of Dawson and Whitlock in defence over the next 2 years, Chom will eventually make a return to the forward line and form a devastating partnership with Larkey.
