Butters nowhere near as damaging as Rankine.
Up until now, Butters has been more damaging.

He won the player of the year.

If both players had 15 touches, who's 15 touches are you taking?

Not butters.
You are kidding yourself if you think Rankine has achieved as much as Butters so far in his career.

It's like you have never watched Butters or forgotten about him because he is injured. Butters is damaging with his disposal too.

Compare their respective achievements & it's not even a contest!

I'm taking Rankine all day long over Zac Butters mate. One is a generational player who can win a game solo, the other is an incredibly effective midfielder.

Rankine does things that Butters can't even do in his dreams. I.e. that goal on the weekend.

Sure... but you he has plenty to catch up to what Butters has achieved so far.

You don't fluke winning the best player in the AFL. He has 2 All Australians & 2 B&F.

No doubt Rankine will win All Australian status, but will he be the best player in the AFL?

Time will tell, but you are massively underplaying Butters who is a proven gun.

I'm not talking about their respective careers to date, Butters has simply reached his ceiling earlier. Rankine is just now hitting his straps in the midfield. Prior to that he was kicking 30 goals a year as a half forward.

Im talking about what each players best is and Rankine is higher. This is just my opinion.

Rankine needs to be the best player in the AFL to match Butters!

That is a fact.

Butters isn't the best player in the AFL though....
He was though in 2023.

Back to back All Australians the past 2 years.

Butters is the better performed of the 2 at this point in time, that's hardly even debatable is it?

Both super talented, Rankine of the 2 the most mercurial and X factor but Butters not too shabby in that regard either.

Is he though?

Currently in midfield minutes he is 5th behind Crouch, Dawson, Soligo and Peatling.

He is pretty much equal to Sid Draper who has only played one game compared to a game and a half.
TOG low in the first 2 games compared to last year when he played a lot more midfield.

Izak gets the nod in the nomination for GOTY

Clearly the pick of the 3

Wasn't clear. SPPs was pretty close. His was a harder angle given he was running towards the boundary. Rankine's was probably judged more difficult as he took 2 bounces with someone on his hammer and was at full pace.

Not sure if people take this into account, but I rank goals higher the less flukey they are. SPPs was more of a fluke

Those awards don't count Finals.
So?

There has been so much underplaying of Butters ability on this thread because some just hate Port & can't let their biases get in the way.

You go to the footy to watch the likes of Rankine & Butters in full flight as they are both special players.

Always rated Butters ahead of Rozee because he doesn't usually go missing when the heat is on.

Being at Adelaide Oval was thinking that SPP's goal gets marked down a bit as he has probably practiced kicking from that spot many times. So to me Izak doing it at the MCG where we hardly ever play is even more special.

I don’t really get the idea of Butters not being damaging, either

He’s pretty top-tier in that regard, at his best

So based on your post it was clearly the best
