I got reamed on twitter for saying we overpaid

But but ‘pReMIErsHip eXperIeNCE’
I reckon its got history, years ago we did a pick swap with footscray for hrovet beleiving we could make him the next Daniels as he wasnt getting a look at footscray.

Fast rorward a few years we get daniels in....

I sat next to the coaches box and told Rawlings to **** off when got done by Melbourne in a Covid game in Adelaide.

I was sick of having turnstiles for half back flankers, what I would give for Macmillan and Atley now 😭

Whilst not defending Rawlings (he should have been removed long ago), he is nothing more than the executor for whatever Clarkson wants.

The Daniel target, trade and execution had Clarksons finger tips all over it. As have many of the disastrous trades we’ve completed in recent years.

Kane and Kingy (who knows the inner workings well) reiterated this today. The club has given Clarkson way too much influence in recruiting which he has showed continuously that he is poor at.
Are you serious?

Clarkson made his reputation in part because of his recruiting.

He recruited a whole bunch of the players that make them such a good side right now.

Nobody has done as well out of brady than richmond. He really deserves a starue down there for all he has done for them.
But the main thing is we have a good trading relationship with them! I'm sure Tiges very much love dealing with us

You’re right, the recruits that Clarko brought in at Hawthorn contributed to their success. However that was then and I agree with Psicosis, his recruiting at North has left a lot to be desired. This is just another example of how his best is behind him.

Clarko's recruitment was great when he was working with Pelchen and then Wright.

His recent record here is Daniel, Fisher and Stephens on four year deals. Who is signing off on this?

I'm probably one of the weird ones in that I don't have a problem with 4 year deals for the blokes in the 20th to 30th picked bracket. Good depth is important, is probably gonna be better than the 40+ draft picks and there's no way we're getting some of these guys to come across otherwise.

But we're not giving up the 40+ draft picks, we're giving up second rounders. In some cases early ones.

Impey, Jiath and Scrimshaw off the top of my head.

Crucial players in their run off half back game plan.
Jiath was a Hawks NGA player? Not sure how that's Clarkson recruiting...

Impey & Scrimshaw are role players in Sam Mitchell's side. Absolutely nothing more then that.

Now, how many of Clarksons recruits did Mitchell cull when he took over? I can tell you it's more then two!

This man may have traded away pick 1 or 2 like it was packet of twisties.
I don't blame him solely for it. Sounds like the F1 was going to be traded for a tall if they all assessed the top 5 are likely to be mids and the better players are tied to academies/NGA's from what I've seen early on.
But we could've had both the Whitlocks twins and the Tigers R2 in our hand, if we don't do the Daniel deal with the R2.

That's more the frustration for me than holding at top 5 pick. If we still held the R1 pick, we'd be taking a tall early or trying to split the pick for needs most likely and that looks difficult given other teams holding those R1/R2 picks have NGA or academy players they will get bids on. We can still trade up or into R1 or just take those needs at our picks.

But having said that Brady and Clayton have had enough time to correct the list balance and have had little success finding talent through all the mechanisms, so its fair to give Thursfield a cleaner slate without that baggage imo.

Sam Frost played 24 games last year. He's another one. (Jiath was a Cat b rookie so not recruited.)

In 2020 he traded pick 65 and F4th for random spuds but mostly went to the draft. Certainly no hail mary trades to hold off a cliff.

2019 - Frost and Jon Patton (who would probably still be playing if he hadn't gone down the Tarryn Thomas path. There'd be no need for Chol then.) Frost played every game except the semi final last year.

2018 - Scrimshaw, Scully and Wingard. This is the year that has biased everyone. Two of these players are what everyone uses to say "Clarkson topped up in his final years at Hawthorn." This was three years after their last flag. Scrimshaw was one of their best players last season.

2017 is two years after the flag - Impey is still playing (and Jiath.)

2016 - Mitchell - multiple B&F, AAs, won a Brownlow then left, went to Collingwood and won a flag and O'Meara. The year after their threepeat. Seem like reasonable trades given the circumstances.

Also 2016 - Ty Vickery, RFA. LOL.

In what way is that Clarkson showing he is continuously poor at recruiting? Especially when you consider the recruiting he did after the 2008 flag.

Jaiden Stephenson, [PLAYERCARD]Lachie Young[/PLAYERCARD], Aiden Corr, [PLAYERCARD]Dom Tyson[/PLAYERCARD], Griffen Logue, [PLAYERCARD]Darcy Tucker[/PLAYERCARD], Bigoa Ngyuen, Toby Pink, [PLAYERCARD]Zac Fisher[/PLAYERCARD], [PLAYERCARD]Dylan Stephens[/PLAYERCARD], [PLAYERCARD]Caleb Daniel[/PLAYERCARD], [PLAYERCARD]Jack Darling[/PLAYERCARD], [PLAYERCARD]Luke Parker[/PLAYERCARD], Jacob Konstanty.

How many can we claim to be a success?

Parker and Corr maybe?

It's a pretty grim trade record for Brady.
