That's the whole point?

He missed 9 games. He wasn't fit.

I'm comparing him to his best..i.e. top 5 in the entire comp.

So clearly he sucked in 2023 by that measure. He wasn't top 200.
He was in career best form for the first 10 games of the season in 2023. Was averaging 33 possessions. Then got injured. What are you even talking about.

“Clayton has had a difficult week personally and as such, both he and the club have agreed that it would be best for him not to play against the Eagles on Saturday. “We expect Clayton to return to the program next week, but as always his mental and physical health will be the priority."

For one week? Why wouldn't they just make up a slight soft tissue injury or something? This is very odd given the attention said player will receive for this reason.

It’s Eagles, how about going with ‘managed’. You could manage a dozen players against the Eagles and the anti-tanking dept wouldn’t raise an eyelid.

Clubs now being honest is a good thing. It worked with Carlton and now Melbourne being honest. Saves some speculation (Obviously not bigfooty nuffs wanting to make up stories) in the media and gives Oliver space.

I was out for dinner on Tuesday night celebrating the wifes birthday in the CBD. There was a table behind us of Melbourne players, including Gawn, Lever, Melksham and the above mentioned Oliver. He seemed fine to me.
