Player Watch Pick #56 (2021) - Dante Visentini

Thought Dante had a terrific game. There was a chance that O'Brien could monster him with his size, maturity and experience but Dante more than held his own all night. Banged bodies up against him all night without conceding frees (2 for and 2 against). Picked up 9 disposals (100% DE) and 6 clearances to go with his 33 hitouts and laid one ripping tackle in the centre square on Soligo. 8 contested possessions too and 81% tog so he took the lion's share of ruckwork.

He is surprisingly strong, he was too strong for Thilthorpe when he had a crack at him. And O'Brien couldn't shift him.
Agreed. He's our #1 now, at least until he tires or gets too sore.

Was nice seeing a Port ruck present at a marking contest at one grab a legit contested ball high in the air.

I think we need to remember that he's still just 22 years old. For context, Max Gawn didn't get a regular run at it until he was 24.

Not every ruck is going to be a Brodie Grundy who can play as the #1 ruck their first year out. Vis has taken some time, but it's obvious to see he's clearly improved every year, is developing nicely into his body and is showing the most promise of any ruck in the squad.

If this year is going to be a springboard for 2026 to accelerate what appears to be a mild shift in the makeup of the best 23, Vis has to be a mainstay and get as many games as possible into him the rest of the way. Hopefully, with that opportunity, he will cement himself as a true #1 ruck and solve a big headache this club has had for a number of years.

His around the ground work is good for a player his age. He will only get stronger from here too, looking likely to be a good long term player.
Work around the ground is outstanding for his experience.

Geelong will be interesting. He's played them twice and last time he was very good.

Hes basically as good as the other options now and with way more upside.

Needs to be played as much as possible without running him into the ground.

Sweet has basically found himself in the exact same position he was with English, which is his level.

He will be our best ruck since Lade. Most natural competitive tall we've drafted apart from Georgiades since the 90's. Leave him in for the rest of the year there's nothing for him left to learn at SANFL level.

Great hands
I watched Visentini closely & late in the game the ball was flying around in a very tight contest, he snatched it clean as a whistle & in the same motion dished out a beautiful little releasing handpass to butters? It was poetry
I thought instantly we have a no1 ruckman again
Natural footballer with great skills/ hands/ vision
Tired late in the game so will need management

His tackle on Soligo was the highlight of/ play of the game for us. From memory, he handballed to Farrell who kicked long and Finlayson marked.

He took at least two memorable marks in packs. The one on his chest came from outmuscling Thilthorpe.

The other facet to his game was spoiling through behinds from their long kicks forward especially early.

A Visentini-Finlayson combo this year if Finlayson can keep his act together will be solid enough.

Longterm, Visentini-Whitlock could be excellent.

Very impressed ... On one of the biggest stages too!

He certainly held his own physically, and showed quite a bit with ball in hand. Popped up defence, took some solid marks, and just looked the goods.

At just 22 years of age, any question about our main ruck stocks look settled. I still think we will see Sweet in for a few games through the year, But Vis has arrived!

Finlayson was good but if Dante was on the ground at the start of the 4th quarter the crows don’t get those goals.

I get they wanted him running out the the end of the final quarter but just didn’t need Finlayson in the middle with the game as it was.
