SIMMO'S SPEECH TO THE ROOS​


IN SELLING two home games to Western Australia, North Melbourne also used its recent week in the west to strengthen its ties with its former greats in the state.

As part of the week-long stay in WA, which included a home game win at Bunbury against West Coast before hosting Fremantle at Optus Stadium in a deal worth more than $2 million to the club, the Roos were strong on making it feel like a home away from home.

That included Roos premiership players Adam Simpson and Dani Laidley chatting with the full North Melbourne group for 45 minutes on the Tuesday night between games.

Simpson last coached against the Roos almost 12 months ago to the day, in his fourth last game as West Coast's coach, but took the chance to address the club he formerly captained alongside his 1996 flag teammate Laidley.

The short meeting was meant to go for 20 minutes, but stretched out as the pair talked through their love of the Kangas.

North also had ex-Roos Peter Bell and Matthew 'Spider' Burton join in a sponsors' function during the week, fan favourite Winston Abraham was welcomed in and [PLAYERCARD]Drew Petrie[/PLAYERCARD] came along to a training session to join in as well.

The Roos were based at East Fremantle's new $25 million facility and invited Sharks coaching staff to sit in on their AFL opposition coaching planning day for their own development and insights.

Heard a snippet on the wireless this morning again about the 50yr flag celebration.

I was there when Keka played his first game. I saw all of his career. But a guy who was a hero to the faithful, a great player on the day should maybe take a look at his decision to not turn up for the immortal team photo the next day.
The one great regret of his career.

Make up for it now Sam, turn up this time. Get the remaining members of that team together as one and make up for that regret. Don't let this decision cloud the time that this team has left, you'll only find more regret. What would Barassi make you do ?

Life's too short for that.

This. We are lucky to have so many of our first premiership team still with us. Seems to be really underplayed tbh. It is easy to have a chip from the outside and I know these events are costly, but this is the ultimate and it really looks like it is being under valued. Come on NMFC - lift your game.

His a piece of 💩 and always remember his famous comments from the 1999 grand final when said 1 more goal to Carlton and they will run over North and win the flag at that stage we were 6 goals 20 minutes into the 3rd quarter.
But that didn’t happen as I said his a piece of 💩 and I would listen to Kane Cornes then him.

There's a big part of me that hopes they're all going and it's just Keith Greig messing with her, for old time's sake.

great for us, but I reckon it would be rare that a team that loses by 11 points only gets 1 of 30 votes. Shows that the scoreline flattered them, and they weren't really in the game.
