I had a bloke say to me last week, we just need time to gel with the gameplan, to get games into the kids. How long have we been hearing that for?

Everyone who rocks up to North games in blue and white gear when they can is a true North fan. Only some of those people are aware that our situation is different and more pervasive than the many rebuilds that came before it.

All I'm hoping for now is that we have Larkey, Wardlaw, X and LDU all in the team in a chunk of games towards the end of the year, and can actually put some solid performances in, instead of the monumental cliff-jumping act we usually pull off towards the end of a year. So ****ing sick of writing off huge chunks of the year. It's 24 rounds long, not 8

Yep I will be at Rd 24 and expect something to bide me over summer other than the usual 10 goal thumping

When the chumps shine on the track and get written up as 2026 AA in the training reports and we look destined for Finals until that Pre Season Practice Match hits

$400 in 1998 would have solved a few of your issues for a 20 something.

I'll ask you the same question I just asked upthread:

If you were a professional AFL player wanting a successful career and a good chance to develop as a player at what point since Rawlings got here would you have chosen us as an option if you wanted to move clubs?

As for the rest:

We have shitloads of talented players at the club. Three players from every draft, except maybe 2020 (depending on what happens with Ford,) since we went full rebuild. Admittedly that's only three drafts but there you go, all of them fit into a good side. (Even Jackson Archer who might be the least talented of those players drafted.)

Goater, Curtis, Archer, Sheezel, Wardlaw, Cooper Harvey(!!!), McKercher, Hardeman and Dawson have shown what they can do at AFL level. Goater has been particularly unlucky but in the small sample size of games he's had he stood out, showed as much as Hardeman has, probably more. Other players in the VFL have shown a fair bit at that level too.

List balance - only issue I have is we have no good contested marking forwards but the game is also moving away from these sort of players. Ever GF side since 2021 has been built off small and medium forwards. No small forwards - we have one of the best in the comp.

Realistically the only available KPFs we missed out before last years draft (which I haven't mentioned,) imo are Keeler and Tracey. (Logan McDonald isn't one.) Maybe Morris but we'd already drafted Duursma in that draft.^

Other list issues like outside players ... well he gets shit for RHjr and Disco Stephens but both of them have been worth what we paid for them and could become very good role players.

Alot of this comes down to "we cut the list too hard in 2020 and we didn't get in enough quality players to replace them all immediately" but realistically that was never gonna happen and not cutting all those spuds would have been negligent (imo obviously).

^Nate Caddy might end up being very good but for a KPF at pick four he's not that good a kick.

Very good footballer. A few here think that you need 22 hard at it types at all times.

Not necessarily. It would be nice occasionally, if at least a few that play to a plan that doesn't require kicking to the boundary to an umpty dump using the centre. Fitness and intelligence levels where they can use the centre of the ground and not lose every centre clearance the minute they're leant on would suffice. It'd probably also clear up the goal kicking issue too.

After last seasons r23 and r24, I'll take a 10 goal thumping as an improvement and some momentum into season '26
