We kind of have a point to prove as well. We haven’t made a statement yet. We’re starting to get close to finals, need another win to make absolute sure we make it and want to hit finals running. We’re still spluttering, might be a good time to put the foot down with some finals like games pretty much for the rest of the season.

I would have thought the Geelong game, and to a lesser extent, the Hawthorn one, made some kind of statement?

Hawthorn has been one of our bogey teams, and we hadn't won down at Geelong for over 20 years, yet we never looked like losing either game from the first bounce.

Hopefully that's a sign that we're "on" when we need to be (ie, the next 5 weeks, and beyond). Unfortunately, we've also been "off" a few times unexpectedly - hopefully we're past that now.

Gold Coast has always been a 50/50 split between NRL and AFL. In retrospect, it's kind of amazing because Gold Coast is situated right in the middle of Brisbane and Sydney (both NRL heartland cities) yet it somehow has able to create a strong AFL presence.

You don't reckon the Mexicans (Vic type) moving up there for the last 100 years has had an effect?

I wouldn't say that. I'd say it's been mostly rugby league until recently, with such a huge number of Victorians moving there to turn the tide. I know they produced players like Marcus Ashcroft and Nick Riewoldt ages ago, but Keebra Park High has been an absolute hotbed of top rugby league talent for a very long time now. It's only recently that Palm Beach Currumbin High has started to match that level of talent output in our game.

We just have to win. I don't care if it is ugly. We just need to keep winning and have our players make it through the games unscathed.

Felt the same going into the Bulldogs game and will probably be the same until the end of the season

Would rather win all 5 games by 1 point than win 4 by 120 points and lose the other

Given Kai's year with inconsistent performances and injury troubles, Linc could possibly find his way back in the team by the back end of the season. Also, i'm so happy that Sam Marshall has kept his spot.

This is a very good lineup. Marshall would be my choice as Sub. Great to see McKenna back. His aggressive run and rebound will be a bonus.

I really like McKenna as sub as he has done well in the past and can play at both ends of the ground. But he is more like for like for Lohman so assumed he will be in

Marshall to get a start, McKenna sub.

Marshall is in a good run of form. Time to see what the lad has from the start while we are still far enough off finals. As mentioned above McKenna is a fine utility and will provide a spark when he comes on.

Lohmann out means Bailey forward leaving a wing rotation available.

Marshall in a wing/ half forward rotation with Bailey I reckon. McKenna impact sub.

Going all Mr Ripper on this one and declaring it a danger game. Seems on paper the easiest games for the remainder of the year and therefore exactly the kind of game we're likely to go in a bit sleepy into.
The way we've played this season so far, literally every game is a danger game.

We tend to play Berry, Levi and Bailey as the wings
We will find out what is going to be our decision about 30 minutes before bouncedown when the sub is named.

Sam Marshall named as sub would mean we will be sticking with the 3 usuals on the wing and McKenna in Kai's role.

Conor McKenna named as sub and IMO Bailey plays the Kai role and Marshall is in the wing rotation.

I would have him in for the same reason Reville started last week. It gives us an extra option in defence and an attacking one at that. Bailey should cover for Lohmann and I would expect Fort and McInerney to try and stretch Gold Coast by taking it in turns playing the resting ruckman / tall forward role.
