It’s gonna be hard to play good consistent footy after coming back from a long injury especially now WCE will be playing 3 Finals bound teams who have been playing at a high level all year ..Look at Hewett as an example he got talent but has yet to play 4 quarters of consistent footy after resuming from injuries..

chess’s disposal by foot looked good tonight. With Bakes and Duggan in the team butchering it left right and nowhere near centre I think I want to seem how Chesser can go next year.

The foot skills were excellent and the gut running to useful spots was pleasing.

Again, so many of our players would look a lot better in a competent team of midfielders

Chess' pace is something that not a lot of our players have. He really demonstrated that today, unlike another player who is supposedly fast in our WAFL team.
He's tidied up his disposal and some really good endurance.
Nothing but positives from today's game.
He puts up a couple more comparable performances and he should be locked in for an extension.

Chesser played well and will get an extension, all you people calling for his delisting. this is the same with barnett needs a big preseason for size and endurance but only young and needs another preseason, if no good next year he needs to be delisted.

Chesser was genuinely impressive today, used his speed to good effect and got a lot of field position off of his kicking. Hopefully this is a sign of him turning the corner, which would be huge, but we've had a couple of false dawns with Chess previously (when he came on as sub in r1 2024 for eg) so would like to see him back it up the next couple of weeks.

If he can become a B23 player it would be huge for our rebuild.

Two things can be true at the same time.

1) You have to be very cautious delisting a 22 year old first rounder with his injury problems. Especially when you have 25 or more barely state league level players on your list. That game was one of his best at the club and probably gets him a new contract based largely on his potential.

On the flip side;

2) He IS a 22 year old first rounder and by now he should be producing at least that level of performance every week to be a viable quality AFL standard player (and noted that was still a sub 20 touch game and was still far from a dominant performance).

Perhaps we set such a low bar for Chesser that the signs that he played well yesterday is clouding our judgement.
I think the biggest thing for me (from the eye test) was that he knew what he wanted to do and achieved it.
He didnt overthink his decision making or when to go for the ball. When it was his turn, he went. When he made a decision, he stuck with it (and his decision making was excellent).

I appreciated us having a winger that actually could pick up a ball and not fumble a billion times and panic (Hutchinson, and to some extent Hall at times).

Now he needs to try and back it up and continue to get involved in the game. We need our wingers to do better than 14D a game.

You have to wonder if Mcqualter Has given him a lease to play with a bit more freedom as opposed to Simpson’s sacrificial wing role. Looked to have purpose and could execute.

Watching him live he definitely stood out. It could have just been the glistening tanned skin or the orange boots but he seemed powerful and decisive in his movements.

Really hope he can back it up next week and not have a downer like he did after his strong WAFL game a few weeks ago.

We simply don’t have any/enough senior leader-mentors. And our reserves are a joke development wise.

Until then, our talent is hard to evaluate.

It's a fair point, but then I look at the presence of those other team discards who have come in and are getting games every week and looking ok comparatively. Or players like Petch who have played 100+ AFL games and aren't even impacting at WAFL level when he's finally dropped. Definitely some big imposing players would elevate those around but our list seriously lacks AFL quality.

His speed and skills are evident. He looked fit up close too. Injury free is the key. I'd be happy for one more year.
