Too little too late.

Set shots and running shots from 40 were a disaster.

We made some poor choices with our field kicking and generally played dumb footy

Logan Morris is a smart player but did one of the dumbest things I've seen when he marked about 50 out in the third quarter. with Charlie all on his own well inside 50. All he had to do was chip it into space for Charlie to tun into an open goal. Instead, Logan decided to take on the man on the mark and got caught red hot HTB.

Inexplicable brain fade

Feels like we talk about this every week, but it’s crazy how ineffective Charlie has become. Have zero faith in his goal kicking and he isn’t really that damaging up the ground either. Not sure what the answer is but looks like the cliff has come
Most on this board have been of the same opinion that Charlie’s end would come quickly when it hit. The signs were there last year, that it was coming, but I think we were all hoping it was just a blip and that he may have been carrying something etc.

I think it probably comes back to the fact he didn’t play a whole lot of Aussie Rules footy coming through, but mainly relied on his speed to turn himself into some player. Problem is without that same speed, he hasn’t really got anything to fall back on.

I was pretty surprised when the club gave him the extra few years on his contract. I’m not sure he sees that out in the seniors.

That’s where you’re going wrong. It’s much more fun supporting footy when you are personally affronted by every loss. Whenever we lose I hand write a letter to Fages asking why he is trying to ruin my life.

My new priorities are Collingwood not winning the flag and the Crows getting robbed by umps late in a final. If we do well then that is a bonus.

It’s a shame linc did his acl. I think he would have allowed Charlie to play his natural more instinctive game. That isn’t to say his confidence isn’t down but I actually don’t see physical decline.

Is Henry Smith the answer? He was underwhelming today. Ruck work was just ok and was a flop as a forward. Slow as a wet week.I note Oscar had 23 disposals in the 2s. Does he come back? Doedee was just not quite there. He will go out for Lester and I feel he should finish in the 2s and just concentrate on a big preseason.

In my opinion, charlie needs to evolve the way he plays the game. Opposition teams often holds him but he rarely gets any frees, but the bigger issue is he also fails to get into open space.

When you watch others like Lohmann and Mccarthy (before Lohmann), they can find open space. It is like Charlie is trying to run too fast and fumbles etc all the time and puts himself under pressure.

This is coaching, and cameron need to work on his movement to find open space more than he does.

Haven't read over the whole review, just got home. Not upset with the loss at all, this is why it is so rare to win multiple flags in succession, everything has to go right particularly injury wise.

You can not underestimate how much having so many best 22 defenders out at once effects your synergy, Payne, Starcevich, Answerth and Lester, + Neale and Lohmann also best 23 players.

IMO we have just lost too many soldiers at the wrong time, no matter how the rest of this season turns out with a good injury run at the right time in 2026 we are a better side than 2025.

FWIW we are probably better off finishing 3rd/4th given our better away than home record this season, no doubt in my mind we could beat anyone away in a Qualifying Final.
Win 2, 4th
Win 1, 6th
Win 0, likely early holiday for the boys
(To survive we would need Freo to beat the Dogs in final round, in Melbourne).

Most of the problem is since early last year Charlie can't hit the side of a barn door.

I think he has declined in a relative sense, he’s no longer in that top 5% of speedy forwards I don’t think, still quick and can kick a goal but he isn’t a physical weapon like he used to be

I also said it was just my opinion
Nah, that's not a universal get out when it's stuff like "he doesn't want to play for the club".

The guy was stoked at being drafted by us. There's a massive difference between being ineffective (though I'd still question that) and him wanting to be in a completely different team.

I know they said put Linc on ice to next year. I still like to see if he is available end of year
Still think Charlie been lost since he left.
We have no one apart from Rayner to tackle in forward 50. Ah Chee seems off as well as Charlie

Injuries get you in the end. When you have 7/8 players out it's always going to be tough - we only needed a couple of them to be available today and we probably win. Such is footy. We don't do ourselves any favours with our awful goal kicking accuracy.

What I got out of that game was - Charlie is just about done. Been a crowd favourite and produced some of the best highlights at the Gabba under Fagan's reign - however, he just can't get neat it anymore. Last few weeks he at least provided tackling pressure and had some nice passages of play with his field kicking. We got none of that today.

I hope he proves me wrong but I fear for Charlie.

Dev Robbo doesn't get many opportunities and playing sub is not ideal. But, he just doesn't seem capable of taking the next step at this level.

Reville was alright last week but he was very average vs Swans. Looks slow and disinterested and doesn't win enough ball and fitness queries. In reality if everyone is fit he is about 30th best player.

Henry Smith got badly exposed tonight - credit to the Swans they put Blakey on him and he just ran off him all day and beat him in the air. Happy for them to give him one more shot but I think he is fair way off it and little wonder we want Draper.

Bailey and Rayner were average tonight and Ah Chee is really struggling.

But next week we go to Fremantle and if we win that we will believe the Premiership is still achievable - getting Lester and hopefully Starcevich back will help immensely.

Apart from his body language which often is not good the main issue is that he coughs up many opportunities that a gun small forward would swallow and his set shots are close your eyes and hope. The vibe he gives off when lining up is just pathetic to witness.

Fix all that and he can still be a valuable player. But it's been a theme for a while now.

My wording was he LOOKS like he doesn't want to play for us. That sounds like opinion to me.

Regardless, it’s a very odd thing to say

Spot on with Ah Chee. When in form, there no way he misses that goal today.

Losing our only lockdown defender before the game was a big blow.

We struggle against some lower sides that use the handball well through half back and wing area.
They break up our defense structure that way rather than kicking to targets.
They use a mixture of both of course.

The Swans also did well to block a lot of our access via the middle of the ground.
Similar story to North and Demons.

McCluggage 30 disposals but only 9 to half time. A good comeback and you can't play well all the time.

Smith kicked a nice goal. He had 8 H/O with 3 to advantage but just the 2 disposals (0,1,1,0).
Blakey had a good game and looked like he was on Smith.
This position is now a big headache for the MC. I always preferred Day, but it appears he is on the outer for now.
Oscar stats in the VFL today look good but so did Smiths and i prefer 1 ruck to 2.

Our 18 to 23 ranked players were always our strength, but injuries have eaten away at that
Charlie Cameron is having a shocking year but only McLachlan to replace him. McLachlan subbed off today.
Lohmann please return only when you completely over your injury.

The Swans played well, and the Lions were well below their best.
We did not deserve to win tonight and that's how it played out.

I have not seen Fagan pressor.
However, when you win center clearances 20-9, stoppage clearances 20-12 & inside 50's 65-52 you should never be 20 points down at 3/4 time.
