This! This is what we are missing! We just need a little bit of pineapple on our pizza. Some sweetness to compliment the savory. A little bit of magic i50 to finish off the hard work. We just need some pineapple on our pizza. Quote of the year!
We were all pineapple, no pizza!

I’m concerned about our forward 50m tackling in particular never being rewarded. We have players like Parker getting nailed for being in possession a millisecond, or if a player has one arm free despite no prior opportunity, but Adelaide players took on the tackler in our forward 50m multiple times and then dropped the ball when tackled for no result.

Our success goes very much with how much reward we get for our effort up forward, and the umpires implementing the rules appropriately has a large influence on that.
Unfortunately, the umpiring last night had a strong pro-Adelaide whiff about it.
I don’t like to blame the umpires though. Had our conversion rate been slightly better, we’d have beaten the Crows and the umps.

after re-watching, I really noticed that we were very bold in moving the ball through the centre corridor in Q1, which caught their defenders out of position and gave our forwards a lot of options in terms of leading into space to receive the ball.

after Q1, the rain came and the crows mids competed better, which saw us revert to playing wider and much more predictably, which allowed the Crows to flood out F50 destroy our “connection”.

The lesson - play bolder for longer. Keep attacking through the middle and taking risks. We can’t win playing conservatively.

After having time to calm down and then re-watch the game there's a couple of things that stood out. Our forward 50 entries have gone from being targeted passed to players on the lead to Melbourne style bomb-and-hope rubbish that gives you more inside 50 entries, but less real opportunities to score goals. The other is that the umpires were clearly intimidated by the Adelaide crowd, some of their calls and non calls were nothing short of embarrassing.
Overall you can see where the holes are and why they exist, no Howe in the backline and no Hill in the forward line, but the team showed they are more than capable of matching it with the other teams when our intensity is up.
Just a personal point to make and that is the unjust criticism Ned Long has / is getting. He's been played out of position and out of form recently, but last night was in his preferred position and played well. He's still not back to his best, but if they stop @#$%ing around with where they play him he'll return ro his best, and so will our midfield. Anyway that's my 2 cents.

Frampton was great last night. Thilthorpe really only out marked him once, resulting in that around the corner goal.

It was a good move rotating Pez and Crisp through centre square more often too.

Naicos was v.good but I reckon Schultz was our best four-quarter player. He couldn’t have given any more of himself.

Encouraging signs of form returning for Moore, Houston and DeGoey.

Parker is a keeper. Hope he stays in for rest of the season.

Someone might disagree with you.

You need to drop the Melbourne comparison. It has no foundation in reality

Honest Q. Is our coach Teflon Coated? Because he’s ducked honestly the righteous level scrutiny this year.

His strategy has failed. This resting players stuff has backfired badly.

He appears to make absolutely 0 major changes as the match goes on (Same as Buckley)

In his defence he won the flag in 2023. Relying on that as some excuse the coach isn’t starting to get into fair criticism field is weak sauce.

Hes tactically poor. He seems to be lacking the fire to actually scold players for genuinely shit performance. I could go on but the above is more than enough.
As soon as he lits rip the gently gently koombiyah stuff will not work.

I think his post match last night and the week before was good actually.

There was a big shift last night.
And enough to build on over the last game and next few training weeks to take into finals.

It is time to get serious on this. And for those of you who have a problem with the best pizza topping there is...I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for capricciosa I am all out of mushrooms, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you with no calves. If you just admit you are wrong and eat some pineapple pizza, now , that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will feed you an entire Hawaiian with extra pineapple.

Ned long played well ???
Lol
10 out of 22 effective disposals
Part of playing well is to not give the ball continually to the opposition

Then "someone" needs to watch the game again, then watch a Melbourne game when they had their big forward line (if you can stomach that) and you'll see the similarities.

Ultimately, our tall forwards are too small and can't deal with numbers flooding back. It's been the story of most of our defeats - GWS (before we became physically cooked and got blown away), Geel, Freo, Adelaide.

And just to pre-empt, Coxy isn't the answer. He played in 3 of those.
I still remember seeing Cox (against the Cats) held and thrown to the ground off the ball deep in our pocket late in the third term for no whistle as the pack contested the ball. It was remarked upon by the commentators but demonstrates the chasm separating the treatment of Cox and Jeremey Cameron. If Cox received the arm chopping, arm wrapping and back pushing frees other key forwards like Ben King and Curnow receive every week, he would snag one or two goals a game without taking a mark.

Yup his disposal efficiency was down, but so was everyone's.
Pendles had a DE of 58.3%.
Elliott, De Goey and Lipinski were all 50% or lower.
And for the game we only have 7 player who were above 70% DE, even Nick was at 65%.

After sleeping on it, it does suck to lose, but Adelade are very lucky we didn't blow them out of the water, they got a small taste of finals footy and they won't get that run of luck with the umpiring in finals.

We really need to work on our mid to forward connection, should be a priority this week.

Also, did Josh or Beau attend any centre bounces??? i can't remember any, i thought with Parker in the side, we had the option to play Josh or Perryman in the middle. I remeber Houston being on the wing at the start of the game.

We want to find a workaround for when the game slows down. Creating space, isolating defenders etc.

Players have to win their 1-on-1 contests and our forward line got pantsed yesterday; most notably Keane over Mihocek.

Anyone else feeling a bit numb over the loss last night and the possibility season 2025 is slipping away along with any good chance we had of winning another flag? Or is it just me.

My level of numbness is almost equivalent to a general anaesthetic.

But I expect some feeling to return during the week, so I can face another Pies game. And this forum.😳

This will have you calling the National Guard. The best pizza I have ever had was a satay base with prawns, chicken and of course....pineapple. It was PERFECTION!

Woke up this morning feeling flat still but there are a lot of positives.

We beat majority of teams playing like that. Crows give up a lot of inside 50s as it’s a stat it looks like they’re happy to concede so they can rebound and swarm on the turnover. They lost the inside 50 count by 13 when they beat Brisbane and by 6 when they beat Gold Coast by 10 goals.

If we don’t finish top 4 then so be it. We can do damage from 5th when we get a home final. The pre finals bye has reduced the advantage of winning that first qualifying final (though would still like it).

The positives I have:
  • We have one in Parker. He looks really composed and applies great pressure. Happy to keep him in.
  • Framp is back. Played a great game and found his form at the right time.
  • Shooter and Beau can hold their heads up. Missed this combo.
Could’ve been a different result if there weren’t 4 cowards on the whistle but is what it is.
Beau needs to find a left foot. That dinky left foot banana in our forward fifty dribbled along the ground. It was our last clear chance. Perryman has a strong left foot. It shows up in tight contests. Options are so limited if you can't use it.

Drop the hard done by stuff. Coxy cant deal with body contact and flails his arms around when he's not going to get near the footy.

McStay has two goals in his last six games. I know there are a lot of Cox haters on here but I genuinely think he can add a bit more to our structure. He actually competed quite well in his first two games back on return earlier.
He can give DC a chop out in the ruck and also help negate opposition defenders by being able to kick longer to him in the square.
