Hawks board is all up in their feelings after Razor Ray said the Karl Amon free was correct tonight.

It’s one of the saltiest opposition match threads I’ve seen in some time.

One poster thinks we’ve ripped off the Collingwood chant with the “Liiiions” chant (that we’ve been doing since the three peat era).

LMAO, they’re not okay.

Funnily enough this is the ad on bigfooty that directly came up after your post. 😂

How fitting.

The irony is that we DID rip the Lions chant off another team, but not Collingwood - it’s a direct copy of the same chant that the supporters of the British and Irish Lions do. They toured here in 2001 so I’m guessing that’s when it kicked off.

Our scramble defense is incredible to watch. Where has that come from
Last two weeks an absolute feature of both games. The Freo game you could perhaps criticise some of the Dockers' decision making in their front third (Frederick most notably). But Hawthorn are pretty well drilled in that regard so we did exceptionally well to close them down in that aspect of the game.

I wonder if we’re tempted to go small against Geelong. Gallop didn’t look likely but it would be harsh
Without Hipwood I like Gallop in the team just because you would think his absolute baseline (ie if he's doing nothing else) is in embarrassing the fellow members of his forward line to bring that pressure and defensive attitude, when perhaps some of them waver in that regard at times.

You don't necessarily have to be old or experienced to lead.

So in the wash up, the draw against North was as good as a win.
Jack Payne's desperate lunging spoil the gift that keeps on giving. The difference between 3rd and 6th. Time will tell how telling a contribution it is to our success this season.

Think he had 10 disposals in the last quarter along with the goal
Seems to be making a bit more of a habit of coming into games the longer they go, whereas in the past (the Melbourne game early last season at the MCG probably the most recent example) he was more likely to start with a bang and then go missing.

Hopefully it's a reflection on the work he's done on his general fitness. And maybe also a mindset shift etc. The whole "it might not be your day but it can still be your moment" is bloody powerful in the right hands.

the Amon call - with the pressure building I think it was one of those ones where he wanted it to go to a team mate to either fumble it over the line or was going to maybe going to get tackled over the line. So imo he didn’t want it to stay in, issue was he was the one to do it and it just looked casual.
Probably stiff. But they refused to pay htb on Meek and that diabolical call on Starcevic.
Live at the game it was a clear and obvious free kick. I somehow ended up down at the Hawthorn end (never again), where it happened, and there wasn't a whole lot of whinging about it even there.

Record with Sam Day in the team: 10-2.

Record without sam day: 5-4-1.
No brainer at this point isn't it. Us plebs watching in the outer or on TV might not necessarily know all the ins and outs of what his role is throughout a game (me absolutely included).

But we don't need to. All we need to recognise is that he clearly makes us a better team and should stay in the team for that reason alone.

Did he deliberately handball it out of bounds? Probably not.

Was there sufficient intent to keep the ball in? Absolutely not.

Based off the letter of the law, the right call was made.
Absolutely nailed it. Look forward to your segment on 360 tonight Razor Ray.

Not sure who else they have to call on 3KZ. Presume Andrews to Shannon Neale and Froggy to Jeremy Cameron so Darcy will have to take Dangerfield when he goes forward i would presume and Starce to Brad Close or Tyson Stengle.
Last time we played Geelong it was just after Payne had done his knee and we just went with the two tall defenders. But also Starcevich and Answerth both played so I imagine we will keep it simple and roll out the same back 7 as Sunday night, simply to maintain cohesion as much as anything.

Running with no apparent individual reward but huge team reward is hard to pick up, and impossible on the broadcast.

Dragging opponents away, creating space, engaging opponents in contests.

Marshall still being ignored by his team mates way to often.
I noticed this also. One from Starce particularly glaring, but I think it's because he's presenting as the easy down-the-line option, whereas we really want to be hitting the corridor. He's left open partly because he's a newbie, but also because that's where our opponents would prefer we kick it.

Amon incident was a clear free kick.

Mitch Lewis getting an absolute gift in the second quarter also not spoken about. Yet the Amon call cost them the game apparently.
You should know by now, incidents towards the end of games are infinitely more important than any others. /s

True. If we ripped it off from anywhere (and we definitely did) it was from the British & Irish Lions rugby tour in 2001 which was played at the Gabba. Such is the overlap of sporting support in Brisbane that many of our members would have there that night.

Scrambling defence is part system however is mostly fuelled be desire and a competitive mongrel IMO... finals are upon us and we are hungry.
It's a big part why I've long said these days you just need to make the finals, and then if you hit another level with your pressure you can string the games together to win a premiership. Worked for the Dogs, worked for Richmond, that's how GWS made a couple of deep finals runs unexpectedly including 2019, worked for Melbourne, and worked for us last year.

The question is whether we can tap into it again and again like Richmond or we're satisfied and done like the Dogs or Melbourne. The evidence this year so far is a lot more promising that it's the former rather than the latter.

David King doesn't know what he's talking about? I'm not sure I can find anyone around to get a shocked emoji.
How VFL-ish for King to latch onto that one "controversial" decision that went our way.

Apparent silence on the ones that didn't

- the blatantly incorrect fee kick and goal to Lewis
-the after the siren goal to Ginnivan
-the HTB atrocity against Fletcher and that after a series of non-deciisions with Hawthorn players clearly caught red hot.

Nothing like cherry picking to suit a narrative eh Kingy?

I didn’t see it, but Ray Chamberlain was on AFL360 last night and said it was clearly a free because he didn’t show enough intent to keep it in. He said the free they missed was the similar incident was Harris at the other end a few minutes earlier (I’ve heard it mentioned but don’t recall it).
That sounds about right to me.

Harris is a master of being a lanky goofy guy and fumbling correctly for touch.
