I think it’s posturing more than wanting to keep him. Any 26+ yo with currency wanting to leave is actually a really good thing with our list state and I think the club finally recognises this.

Oscar and Liam have currency, Barrass had currency although as I said the year before we should had sold him to the Swans for their 2 x 1Rs.

I hope you are right, but given our track record with guys in the same age profile recently, and wear on their body, i have little faith.

Its just posturing mate. A deal will get done. Probably already agreed to in fact.

It is staggering the amount of people on this thread who want to keep him.

Must be heavily in to Starcevich

Puck off hird, you peptide injecting cheating crunt. I don't give a flying heck what you think. You should be banned about talking about football you integrityless no hoper
Take your views and shove them right up your arse!!!!

Anyway rant over

baffling someone so stupid and out of touch could be a head coach, did he forget salary caps exist?
He's saying we should pay the luxury tax for going over the soft cap. Like having an extra coach or rowing machine is going to see us surge up the ladder.

How is Collard going this year?
His good was very good and exciting. His bad had him non existent.

Showed abit though. Like when he has an impact - he really impacts the game.

Just a very young kid that still needs physical and mental maturity.

Ross is a big wrap. Reckons he will be an elite small forward in 3-4 years.

I wish the best for him, but he's already 20. He can't get a touch.

He's probably closer to being delisted than getting a good extension, certainly not worth anything when assessing value in a Ryan trade.

It's not like he's carving up the VFL either

And Graham would be the perfect mentor for him 🌈

Our VFL side was west coast AFL bad. Hence the split and going solo next year.

At AFL level there was significant difference between his best and worst.

His best is good and you see all the elite small forward traits.

His worst is invisible. No impact.

He needs to keep developing over preseason. He has all the tools. But he needs to stay involved for longer or find a way to have an impact when it’s not his day.

Fk Vic Media are flogs
On Agenda Setters the Reid re-signing gets about 30s at end of show, & it's just flog Cornes saying that Harley better pull his finger out to earn his $2m.
Besides the fact that the $2m is only if he hits incentives (e.g. AA, B&F) & therefore he IS performing, they've been critical all year saying why would he stay, Eagles can't pay him $24m for 11yrs etc, but when they are wrong they completely don't acknowledge & basically ignore the subject. His contract has been one of the biggest stories all year but only if he goes back to Vic apparently, coz when he signs with WC they don't want to know about it.
When NAS re-signed they dedicated about half an hour off the top of the show & even got RTB in for a big love-in.
And Lyons saying we're using the Judd blueprint of having a Victorian gun for X years to help build our club, before they return home to Victoria (where they belong). So either way they take credit for Harley, whether he stays or goes. Like Hird, he can barely conceal his bias. You can tell Hird despises WC.

If Curnow wants to get to Swans it presents an opportunity for us.

For Swans it makes sense to let go of Warner for say pick 2, & on-trade that for Curnow, because:
1. Key forward is a bigger area of need for them than midfield. With Gulden, Heeney, Mills as mids supported by Sheldrick, Jordan & Cleary coming through they are still good in there
2. If Warner goes in 2 yrs as free agent, then they likely get only a mid-late first rounder for him. Curnow presents much better value

I'd happily trade 2 for Warner, even though there's a chance we get him for nothing in 2yrs, because:
1. It locks it in now. In 2yrs we have to contend with Freo (assuming he even decides to come home)
2. We desperately need to get out of this rot ASAP. A player like Warner materially improves our chance of doing this
3. It provides leadership & support to Reid & Co. As it stands we're looking at Harley having to lead the midfield himself again next year
4. If we might draft CdT with pick 2 anyhow, which doesn't appeal at all
We need another walk up starter in the midfield asap. A quality readymade in their mid 20's. The same with a ruckman.

And Essendon got pick 18 in 2006 as draft assistance... 6 years after their 2000 Premiership.

Honestly it seems to me our selection team are ratings slaves, pretty much every pick in last year's draft was the highest rated player available. They probably get a computer to do it on auto draft. So if CDT and Duursma are rated 1 & 2, I'd be very surprised if we didn't pick them barring a pick split.

I don’t see this as bad thing necessarily. In the past we have criticised our recruitment team for trying to outsmart themselves by choosing players based on potential and thinking we can shoehorn them in other positions. Picking players based on rating/need/predraft performance may be the way to getting a consistent crop of players that can make it, rather than 1 standout and 3 cloggers.

Something to consider anyway.

Would rather request NGA prelistings and a couple of extra Cat B rookie spots for 2025 & 2026.

Yeah I don't disagree with you there. More thinking if the AFL wants to show some integrity (for once) and make us the example by not giving us certain concessions, then perhaps this is the one they let through.

I watched a youtube clip last night of Sam Grlj. He is a very classy act from what I saw.

His lateral movement seems elite. Great break away speed and his decision making was very mature. Very fast, clean hands. Good tackler as well. Now, I must admit it was a highlights package so he was the focus, but if he isnt the sort of player that Mini wants then I am not sure what is. Looks like he'd partner up with Elijah Hewitt and be a real problem around stoppages. Where will he likely go in the draft?

If we could get Sharp #1 (feel he'd handle the pressure well), Duursma #2 and Grlj as well (with a pick swap into top 10) Id be happy, happy boy. Of course there are some other good names, but this would feel like a well balanced top end draft.

Can't wait for the AFL to tick off our request to sign a FA without diluting pick two so we can finally announce TDK.

Saints have offered contracts to

Cam McKenzie
Flanders
Ryan
TDK

Surely there is a cap squeeze.

Ryan deal has to be a player campaigners

They've paid unders on the cap recently, so can go over. Be a fair bit of front/backloading contracts.

We've definitely gone with a more modern data-driven approach with drafting lately as opposed to the "old men gut feel" that Moneyball made fun of decades ago.

Early word is the Tiges are into him.

We have obviously had serious discussion with Brisbane.

OA
Starcevich
Ah Chee
Yesterday haselby mentioning what's been discuss d here about Neale.
Us having pick 1 and 2 and the lions having a top 5 NGA they don't want bid on.

If the AFL allow us pick 2 for OA and starcevich with no dilution. We take Ah Chee and Neale that would bring in 3 experienced premiership players. A defender a forward and and a mid shoring up all three lines. This is good business at little cost.
