If Curnow wants to get to Swans it presents an opportunity for us.

For Swans it makes sense to let go of Warner for say pick 2, & on-trade that for Curnow, because:
1. Key forward is a bigger area of need for them than midfield. With Gulden, Heeney, Mills as mids supported by Sheldrick, Jordan & Cleary coming through they are still good in there
2. If Warner goes in 2 yrs as free agent, then they likely get only a mid-late first rounder for him. Curnow presents much better value

I'd happily trade 2 for Warner, even though there's a chance we get him for nothing in 2yrs, because:
1. It locks it in now. In 2yrs we have to contend with Freo (assuming he even decides to come home)
2. We desperately need to get out of this rot ASAP. A player like Warner materially improves our chance of doing this
3. It provides leadership & support to Reid & Co. As it stands we're looking at Harley having to lead the midfield himself again next year
4. If we might draft CdT with pick 2 anyhow, which doesn't appeal at all
Would Pavlich actually let Warner go to Wce and torpedo Sydney’s remote flag hopes in 2026 ..

What football media person would you have been ok with saying what Hird said? I mean it’s great we ask the question but seriously the answer should be no.
It's the way he said it , also you cant dig yourself out a hole with money.
Especially coming from him, someone who's been responsible for the downfall of a club

Saints have offered contracts to

Cam McKenzie
Flanders
Ryan
TDK

Surely there is a cap squeeze.

Ryan deal has to be a player campaigners
If pick 8 wasn't on the table before, it is now. I reckon some backups might be finding new homes as well.

Our VFL side was west coast AFL bad. Hence the split and going solo next year.

At AFL level there was significant difference between his best and worst.

His best is good and you see all the elite small forward traits.

His worst is invisible. No impact.

He needs to keep developing over preseason. He has all the tools. But he needs to stay involved for longer or find a way to have an impact when it’s not his day.
Fair assessment based on what Ive seen of the Saints. Flashes of brilliance, but does not have the body yet to do it consistently. It would be better for him to stay at the Saints especially as you will be a better team for the short to medium term.

They are just media people, we don’t deserve any favours. We could be paying a million a year extra and pay the tax but we don’t???
We put ourselves here. Like I said it’s great we ask though
I got no issue with Hird.

Would be interesting if there is any trivia on clubs which brothers have each played for, but never together.

As far as WCE is concerned:
Wally and Peter Matera
Wally and Phil Matera
Mitch and Cale Morton
The O’Connell brothers (Michael and David) were both on our list in 1988 but never played a game together.

That’s all I can think of.

Honestly if we started going over the cap and paying the tax how long do you think it'd take til the likes of hird start saying we've got an unfair advantage??

On what basis? North received 5 priority picks over the last few years with a better win loss record than we've had and haven't had any where near the amount of concussion/injury caused retirements

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but a few unnamed clubs are circling Ted Clohesy out of Geelong. Without a deal currently, has to be elevated to the senior list this year or delisted and re-rookied. Could we be interested?

"Clohesy has been stuck on the fringes of Geelong’s best 22, playing just 12 AFL games for the Cats – with nine of them being as the starting sub. Yet his VFL form has remained strong, averaging 27.8 disposals, 8.0 tackles, 6.5 clearances and 4.9 inside 50s from 11 games."

Flanders will cost the saints as will McKenzie. Both top 11 picks in there draft, both early 20s. They might need to split pick 8 for Ryan and our 2nd but that still leaves them short for 1 trade.

We don't need picks. We need players. Who in the saints midfield gets pushed aside if Flanders and McKenzie come in?

2 of windhager, Steele, boxhall.

So
Ryan, Hawks 2nd, our 2nd for 8 and a player.

AND north traded out/delisted all their experienced players further causing their rapid decline and longer stay down the bottom

Seems like you along with ex coach Hird don't understand the luxury tax for exceeding the soft cap, the AFL has made it unfeasible as well as the fact we are controlled by the WAFC who clearly don't want to piss away profits on a ridiculous tax. You can't just exceed the cap for one year either because who is going to move over for a 1 year job and the tax increases each year you go over.

Happy to bring in Starcevich if it costs us nothing or very little. Even with his reported concussion issues its a no brainer. Even though we have Hough its will give us a heap more flexibilty in the backline/Midfield.

Baker, Graham & then Starcevich over 2 years would be good work.

I'd be happy to take a pic/pics next year for Ryan.
Stronger draft and we've got higher rated academy players
This may not matter next year based on the first round bid freeze out rumours.

Disappointing to potentially miss out on Kenh but if we have access to Cody Walker/ Dougie Cochrane it more than evens itself out.

They got a free pass for that despite generating a bunch of extra draft picks as a result and then got gifted priority picks when it didn't work out. We tried a different method and got reemed for it and now we are finally trying to sell some older players who won't be around for the next push and still get criticised for it.

They played in a grand final last year.

This year they had
McDonald - 0 games this year, was 3rd leading goal kicker last year with 37
Amartey - 9 games this year, was leading goal kicker last year with 43
Papely - 11 games this year, was 4th leading goal kicker last year with 36
Gulden - 10 games this year, AA and 8th leading goal kicker last year with 15

I think they'd back themselves in to be top 4 or thereabouts with a decent injury run. They aren't giving up Warner. Will try add a key forward if McDonald is cooked.

Let's hope those rule changes dont come into effect next year altho is Cochrane still a chance to be on ports academy list?
Even if the rules change it'd be nice to have an extra decent pick in a strong draft

GC adding Uwland, Patterson and Addinsall is why they are probably going to be open to moving some combo of Flanders/Touk/Fiorini/Davies. Switch out higher salaries/borderline players for young cheap guns.

It's a great system if you have access to it.
