We are not looking at drafting the other duursma's, we are only looking at drafting WIllem. So he's the only relevant one to discuss.

What's one Duursma got to do with another?

See Joel Selwood vs the rest of the Selwoods.

Duursma looks like a jet.
I realise we are not drafting 2 x Duursma's. My bad for the way it was hastily worded, grouping them together. I'm just not sold on Willem Duursma. Yes he's in the top 6 Draft picks and is everywhere racking up stats. A handy utility, not sure how fast he is?

My personal preference is for Cooper Duff-Tytler for #1 pick and Dyson Sharp our second pick. But if we go Duursma - great. I reckon CDT could be the new version of Cox. Happy to be proved wrong.

The eye test suggests he's got a good set of wheels, particularly for a guy of 192ish cm. Often see him burst away from stoppage and his opponents

Good for him.. and you, we'll probably get him.
I prefer Sharp for a walk up starter/leader, a genuine hard mid. Would be good around HR9.

Yeah let's overlook the best player in the draft because his brothers aren't superstars🙄

Imagine overlooking Scott Pendlebury or Elliot Yeo because their brother's were just ordinary state league players 🙃
Of course those stand out number 1 picks in pendlebury and Yeo

Band 1 FA compo for Draper gives Essendon picks 5,6 and 7 assuming we get pick 2 for Allen.

With TDK also triggering Band 1, our Hawthorn R1 pick will be pushed back 3 places

And Silvagni probably gets Band 2 which will mean our R2 pick gets pushed from 19 back to 23 before the draft even starts

But we don’t need draft assistance according to some

WC list management still silent and working there proverbial off to land a decent midfield fish.

Who is it:
L Neale after BRI win B2B premiers and they need cap space to get OA, Draper, Ridley and we offer an extra year on his contract and pay his 2026 contract/Hawks 3rd round pick back to BRI. 32 and at the peak of form still.

J Steele after WC & STK come to an arrangement that they don't have a pick high enough to satisfy us for Ryan early 2nd round, and WC take his contract and pay through to 2027, up a little if that what it takes. No exchange off picks or STK throw us a future late pick F3rd. Excellent midfielder who is starting to slow down and similar to Graham but better skills.

C Ah Chee after Ryan leaves he presents as a decent option at 28 as a high HF who can play wing and rotatee through the midfield like Ryan did. Replaces Ryan with a 1 year younger player at the peak of his abilities. Nobody can replace Ryan but his leadership would be valuable. 3 year contract, WC 2nd round pick?

B Starcevich RFA, really strong HB/DEF and 1 of the best 1 on 1 defenders around, 26 and provides instant upgrade on some in our back line and as a RFA will be free draft wise if AFL grant concession or negotiate a trade that is acceptable to BRI. Rules around RFA meaning BRI don't get FA compo because what they bring in with FA players cancel that out from my understanding? 4 year contract, 3rd round pick?

Mystery player yet to be disclosed???

TBH, I can see us dealing with BRI exclusively and landing those 3 players would be massive for our list. STK can find a pick to satisfy us and we can use that on other trade targets or push into 2026 draft.
I am barracking for BRI all the way to B2B premiers.

An assistance package where we for two years:

1/ can prelist NGAs/FS
2/ have 6 Cat A and 6 Cat B spots
3/ have our picks place in the draft order frozen

would be great for our needs without the PP whinging. Would mean we hold picks 1,2,11,19,29,47 this year.

19 pushed out to 22 with compensations, traded to GC as a part of the deal for Port pick 7 (natural 6 -> 7 with OA comp). Eaten up bidding up Uwland + Patterson
The eaten up by bidding part I don’t get. If they match our bid, isn’t it their picks they’ve gathered in the 20s that get eaten up? Then that 7 just gets shifted back to 8-9 if those two picks take Uwland and Patterson? So technically we’d have like 8-9 (trade up) and 11 (hawks pick)?

The Draper move to BRI/ADE with BRI the leader is going to change ESS draft plans significantly you would think.
Possibly 3 1st rounders 5, 6, 7 or 5, 6, 19, 23, 24 makes them big players in what we want imo.

I wouldn't expect AFL to give us anything but extra rookie spots from NGA, up from 3 and 3 to maybe 5 and 5 and prelisting those extra spots with NGA players for 2 years.

Unlikely Draper gets paid enough to trigger band 1 though.

I hope.

Apparently we’re into Tylah Young and also Jacob Blight has not been offered a contract as yet.

We seem to be just thrown in.

Richmond key defender Tylar Young is being chased by three rivals including North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs as the Tigers attempt to re-sign their young emerging defenders.

Fellow mid-season pick Jacob Blight missed a games-based trigger on his one-year contract and is yet to be offered a deal by the Tigers.

He impressed early on as a key tall who could play at either end and even pinch-hit in the ruck given his huge tank.

Former high level soccer player Young returned from an ACL reconstruction to play the last seven games in Adem Yze’s senior side and rated in the top 20 defenders in the competition in that time.

West Coast is also asking about his availability, with the Roos and Dogs both keen to strengthen their backlines given their issues this season.

Love your optimism mate, but if you think we're going to get Lachie Neale for a 3rd round pick, regardless of coin, you're in Laa Land.

As for Brisbines salary cap, they have OA, we don't know where Draper will nominate, and Essendon have said Ridley is not getting traded.

After Ross Lyon's great speech about not trading out contracted players, seems highly unlikely they will push their captain out the door.

Ah Chee is gettable.

If it's correct Essendon have offered Starcevich 1.1 million per year for 5, he's out of the market for us I'd imagine.
