That’s annoying. Hopefully just his manager trying to get a better deal.
I'd say so. News this morning is that both Carlton and Essendon are into him, which makes it apparent that the news has leaked from management.

I'd hate to see him go but if it meant the Chesser (blues) -> Curnow (Swans) -> Chad Warner (eagles) roundabout happened i guess we could do it if Carlton and Sydney threw in some extra picks as well to come our way to reflect we are giving up a superstar
*Super-duper-star

Maybe Wce can get a trade of Chesser with Motlop as both players still unsigned..
Def don’t want to see Chesser go

Has been mentioned a bit about the grubby mangers playing a big part & totally agree
The Yeo contract was all off driven by his manager and the club buckled.

We need to play hard ball if they want Chesser ,they can cough up Ashton Moir.
Recon he would be a upgrade on all our small forwards and Motlop

I also would like Chess to stay but with he not signing yet and exploring his options I wouldn’t be too heartbroken if that’s what he chose to do ..

Chesser is a restricted free agent right?
If it came down toit and we were really keen are we not just able to match carlton's offer and hold him?

He’s not a RFA. Would need a trade to be squared up.

He's not a free agent in the AFL sense. He's just out of contract. Meaning we trade him, or he goes into the nationa/pre seasons draft, and takes his chances.

In fairness to Chesser, he had no contract extension up until a few weeks ago and had probably made peace with leaving the Eagles and exploring options in Victoria (assuming there was at least some interest from other clubs previously). Some making out he is doing the dirty on us if he leaves is a bit unfair.

Would suck if he goes but I don’t think the club has done anything wrong either. He didn’t warrant an extension until a few weeks ago on output (as much as I have previously backed him until this year).

Hopefully he stays. I am fine with more money if needed (we have it) but would be reluctant with more than 2 years on output. I know Hutchinson blah blah but we can’t keep repeating mistakes.

I find it a bit ironic that when Chesser was interviewed Pre Draft, the club really rated his leadership and attitude. This may have been a factor in choosing to draft him.

Once he moved to Perth, there was more commentary around his great attitude. They also extended his first contract (after he suffered a serious injury).

Now he is finally over his injuries and starting to perform, he wants out.

Whereas Hobbs (Ess), a player we have been loosely connected to (and would have been available in the same draft) was considered a serious flight risk.

I don't blame Chesser for looking after his own interests and getting paid. Up until recently, he wasn't certain he'd be offered another year, let alone two as rumoured. He doesn't owe anything to an employer who was until last month was looking likely to turf him.

I also don't blame our club for holding off until very recently in offering a contract, he was very much headed for the delist pile with his lack of form and consistency.

If he opts to chase the money (and possibly a longer contract) at Carlton, I wish him all the best.

Right but that’s not what this is, is it?

Carlton wanting him is not the same as him wanting out. Even if he does choose to leave, as the above posts highlight, we didn’t have a contract in front of him a month ago so he’s probably had to shift his thinking to life after West Coast.

It’svery different to “bloke’s selfish and was a flight risk all along” areas.

I’d much rather keep Chesser than let him go, his pace is a point of difference we are lacking.

Blues currently hold 34 and 44.

If you’d told me preseason that Chesser would only play four AFL games, the final four of the season after a spoon was locked up no less, and that we’d turn him into Pick 34, I’d have snapped your hand off shaking it that fast.

But plz don’t go.

O Allen, Barrass etc. We are not a club well credentialed in ID'ing leaders
