Sorry to interject EV, but is the Chesser news based on any Intel? Loved what he showed the last month of the season, would be a steal for a club to get him on the cheap.

Obviously for your sake I hope you keep him, but would love to take a punt on him at the Blues.
Why’s he going cheap? He’s got a two year deal in front of him.

I know Chesser has been frustrating, but injuries and poor coaching (Simmo) hasn't helped. We can't offered to loss a player that entering the 22-26 bracket

Up his deal by a couple hundred K, we have plenty spare cash

Yes we can afford to lose players that at this point have shown very little. We did this with Petch and we do it with others. We keep players way to long.

Petch has been on our list twice as long as Chesser.

Watch Petch do well with Carlton. I'm sad we didnt give him one more year under McQualter. I know most disagree with me and thats fine but I think we didnt use him well enough when he was not injured. We didnt settle him in the fwd pocket and we never tried him off HB, where he couldve been a damaging running HB.

Maybe that’s exactly what his manager is trying to extract from the Eagles. The Blues interest will be a management leak.

Friendly reminder we gave Hutch a 4 year deal for no reason, and we could lose Chess, who is 2 years younger, a first round draft pick, and had a better 4 game block of games this year than any 4 game block of games Hutch played this year.

Hutch's best game still his WAFL debut where he played as a forward. Which is funny because Chess actually averages more goals per game at AFL level than Hutch (just).

Also, Yeo is cooked.

Watch Petch blow a hammy running out of half back in round one.

I bet my left nut hutch doesn't play midfield again. He was picked up as a high half forward and will slot into front half next year.

MqQualter obviously disagrees with you.

No way we let Chesser go. We've backed him in through all his injuries and he's finally got his body right. Has to be a manager thing.

On a side note these managers playing off clubs make the players look greedy. Its only going to get worse in the future....

How the tables turn.

8 weeks ago people where saying Chesser was shit & had no talent. Delist Delist

Now they are upset over he fact he’s got a contract offer from another club and we might lose him…
Some people* wanted to get rid of him and some people* will be upset if we lose him.

*Not necessarily the same people.

Regardless, it depends on what you consider too long I guess.

Irrespective of injuries, this was his 4th year.
Giving an extension will take him to 6.

I'm not against him staying, but I won't be losing any sleep if he goes.

I’d prefer one year over two, but we’d probably have to offer him two if we want to keep him.

My problems with it are: (a) he does represent an age bracket we’re desperately short on, and (b) we’d be selling low.

I for one am shocked that people wanted to delist someone who had shown nothing, but want to keep someone who has shown something.

It's crazy, players wanting the most money they can get. What is the world coming to.

I am in the boat of would like to keep Chesser now he has shown some form.
I was calling for his delisting as well and 1 year would be better than 2.
Its the investment in a player and the return for me.
We have backed Chesser in more than most when some of his games have been sub par and his last month has been his best imo.
So this 2 years to see if we can get the Chesser player we hoped for is the ideal and he gets to repay the faith.
If somehow an offer comes that is above his market value pick wise you look at it and I cant see him returning anything more than a late 2nd pick.
Opportunity cost if that pick helps us get an established player of higher quality or helps us trade up for 1st round pick for someone we are super keen on then this.

Sounds like we are being played by the managers once again. The managers have learnt that the Eagles will always up the contract if there is a rival club sniffing around. Yeo, McGov, Waterman to name a few got more dollars out of us thanks to the managers saying a few clubs were offering more. And nobody can prove their claims.
Except for Ryan, Allen, Barrass, Darling...

When a player has been consistent and the club is lowballing then fair enough. Not one that's been injured the majority of his draft year and his career thus far.
If other clubs are offering him more than the club they are at, then the club is lowballing them. You're paying for future performance not past.
