Happy to trade Ryan. He wants to go whether we like it or not. He is 30 and injury prone and therefore not a key plank in the timeframe we are working on (i.e. 3 - 5 year horizon). He is not worth pick 8. Lets be honest. But he is worth something useable. 3rd rounder in a weak draft is borderline useable. And he is under contract which adds a premium. Something in the 20's is acceptable.
Have the Saints got a pick available in the 20"s ?

Sounds like you guys need a pick in the 20's for Ryan, we have a pick that'll end up in the 20's for Rowan Marshall.

Just saying!

Guys like Ned Long can slot into a stacked, experienced team like Collingwood because they are....stacked and experienced.

He would flounder as a top 3 mid in a weak midfield.
No, Jack Graham has the impact when he plays that role but they seem to move away from that and play him hff a lot. These sort of players have an impact, no matter what, it’s just the impact that isn’t bursting away from packs, flying high for marks or kicking goals in the run. It just doesn’t get talked about unless you’re winning. The issue is we don’t even have that player at our CBAs.

They impact because they don’t need players to get them the ball to do it. 9 tackles, 5 clearance and 13 contested disposals. They are the type that get the ball to Harley, Hewett and Kelly.

They might think Hall is that player and he might be but there are better plug and play for that role while Hall develops and that might be next year after is 3rd preseason, decision making has to be his big improvement. Graham is seen as more of a half forward but can play a part in there. If we pick Sharp it will be somewhat of his role but will probably take a couple of seasons before the body is fully ready.

You say let’s be honest. Well let’s start with getting his age right. He’s 28 not 30. He will be 29 for the entire 2026 season.

I hope we have a new captain next year, I would have Ginbey, McCarthy, Baker, and Hough (I believe he is better served in defence) all ahead of Duggan as defenders.
Duggan is not a midfielder and never has been.
Given that’s the case I see it as untenable that he remains as captain, and I’d love to see a new player take the helm.
No one from our 2018 premiership team will likely see another finals campaign, let’s move on.

Suspicious Kenan Thompson GIF
To be fair he stayed for a while and only left when the club imploded magnificently, and then ran him into the ground and screwed his groins.

If Cousins and co weren't drug fiends I think he would have stayed at least a couple more years.

With his dump kick tendencies, he's not suited to playing in defense either.

Time to trial him as a tagger or chuck him on the gimp wing.

Being an old timers two truisms have rung true in my journey thus far.
If you never ask the the question, its the same answer - its always a no, so dare to ask and yes it might be a NO, but you will never know if you don't ask, IF - it could have been a YES.
Those who dare win, most people love winning, but only a very small few have the balls to accept the dare and take a calculated risk.
This was surmised beautifully by renowned Australian poet Kevin B Wilson in his eloquent title- Do you * on first dates?

"This new method of mine might not work every time,
But then again what method will?
I've been spat at and slapped,
and kneed in the knackers,
But then I've got a few *s as well."

You still have to acknowledge we made a good decision in taking him though. Because there were 10 picks before us whee you could say other draft teams were hit in the arse by the same rainbow unicron draft slide & still missed the opportunity
I mean North also traded pick 3 to get up the order to take the best young tall in the draft- and still missed.

He’ll be a free agent next year and at least we’d get compensation. Even more reason to drive a hard bargain this year and even have the gall to ask for a player that a team also doesn’t want to trade.
He maybe too old to get an early compo pick. It will be interesting to see what Carlton get for Silvagni and that will provide a guide for Ryan who is a couple of years older. We may only get a second or third round pick at best

He’s a RFA so clubs wouldn’t want us to match. We’d let him walk for a band 3 offer without fanfare but you’re right it might be difficult to reach this threshold because of his age.

Your 1st for Marshall and that being passed on to us makes the most sense from all the scenarios I've read on here so far

Saints i can see being the pain in the ass here but maybe you guys or us throw in a sweetener with pick swaps between the three of us im sure it could work out.

Saints really want Ryan, we really want Marshall, you guys really want draft picks.
Seems like a win for all.

We actually would really like early/mid 20's talented players to improve the team, but would take a first rounder if really required, though would ideally switch it somewhere else for a player,.

This thread has seriously jumped 50 pages from last week.

Sorry if I am covering old ground, but with Carlton getting band 1 for TDK and potentially I would be all in for Jack getting band 1 too.

Carlton want Chess + Petch

Saints want Liam

Sydney need to chase Curnrow

Can we not **** with the system to make it work for us? I am sure there are more creative types can offer something up?

Potentially offering to pay % of Ryans contract, the difference is added to Jack's contract. We potentially land Saints first + Carlton's FA picks, while still having enough to tempt GCS to give us Ports pick.

Fantasy stuff but the reality is, I dont think it is far off that we find a way to make out like bandits. Its about time we get kissed on the dick.

Don't think anyone would argue with that. But if the rumours are true that we rated him a near top 10 prospect and were desperate but unsuccessful in getting back into the first round to try to grab him, having him last to 30 was pretty miraculous by draft standards.

Shanahan at pick 30 and pick 2 for Allen isn't getting kissed on the doodle??

He's 28 not 30 for a start.
Also played 20 games this year which isn't bad for someone whose "injury prone".

I don't believe anyone has said he's worth pick 8 by itself.
Most think it's 8 and another pick.

There's no way we trade him under contract for a 3rd rounder
Honestly even Geelong first on traded for ryan would be a bad deal . That pick will end up after 30 which makes it a speculative pick .

Saints would be happy they trade marshall and get a know quantity. Ryan who has been all Australian, has at least 3 years left and puts bums on seats .

We dont "really want draft picks". We have draft picks with the option of splitting those picks to get more picks if we need to.

We want and need quality senior players because we dont have any.

Most teams arent going to let go of quality senior players for a pick between 10-20 in a notoriously weak draft.
