"ohhh dont you just love it?...Pies & Cats hosting Prelims at the G is good for footy"
Every Vic media nuffy over the next fortnight.
Unfortunately the 1 non Victorian team proven not to completely shit the bed in these situations is going through a big rebuild at the moment

Hopefully one day Geelongs 'secret sauce' will be revealed in all its glory, along with the dark alternate AFL/(VFL) agenda that always bubbles away beneath the glossy shimmering mirage of an equal national code. Never forget how The GF was locked into the MCG for 50 years in a hastily rushed through manoeuvre in the corrupt corridors of power.

Meanwhile Geelong's game last night was their 18th Prelim final since 1990. Their 14th Prelim in the last 18 seasons. The Cats have converted their previous 12 Preliminary Finals into six Grand Finals and four Premierships. Mitch Duncan and Patrick Dangerfield both played the 28th Final of their career this weekend.

Geelong’s current Finals winning streak, is four, stretching from the 2022 Qualifying Final to the present. The Cats have only won four or more consecutive Finals matches on three occasions in the Club’s history, with five wins their longest ever Finals streak (2007 Qualifying Final to 2008 Preliminary Final).

The Cats winning percentage is 62, in Finals at the MCG, dating back to their 2004 Semi Final against Essendon. Geelong have won 21 or 34 matches at the venue over the past two decades.
This was the Cats 10th Preliminary Final appearance under Chris Scott, in a span dating back 14 years 2011 when the master coach took over the top job.

This was the 5th Preliminary Final meeting between Geelong and the Brisbane Lions. The Cats have won the past two clashes (2020, 2022). winning percentage across the last 20 matches against Brisbane. This is the Cats second highest win rate against any team across the previous 20 meetings, only holding a better record against Essendon (85%).

Little surprise they beat Brisbane really? But hmm what is their secret sauce?
Might want to check your AI slop before you post it next time. It was a qualifying final, not a prelim so how could it be the 5th prelim between the 2 sides? How do Geelong have a 4 game finals winning streak when the last final they played they lost against Brisbane?

Have we ever won a PF at the G? Don’t think so

‘90 loss to Essendon at Waverley
‘91 beat Geelong at Waverley
‘92 beat Geelong at the G (but this was technically a semi final)
‘95, ‘96, ‘97 all Semi Final losses at the G
‘98 Qualifying final loss to the Dogs at the G
‘99 Semi Final loss to Carlton at the G
‘01 Qualifying final loss to Essendon at the dome
‘11 loss both the Quali and the Preliminary final bot at the G
‘12 loss the Semi to Collingwood at the G
‘19 loss the Semi to Geelong at the G

‘94 was at the WACA, ‘05 Subi, ‘06 Footy Park, ‘15 Subi, ‘18 Optus

Our record in finals away from WA is not great. The only real way for us to make the GF is to win a Qualifying final and get the Preliminary here. We are likely to never do it from outside the top 4.

We did have a bit of an MCG hoodoo when we played at Subiaco, but in that brief time after 2018 until our downfall we had a good overall record there. I predict when we contend again we'll do better there, similar dimensions to Optus.

Isn't AI like social media, always correct!

I've passed from annoyed to indifferent about this year's premiership. At least last year I had someone to barrack for, not this year, realistically. Been a year to forget in more than one way. Bring on 2026.

I don't think he's wrong, it's a ridiculous headline from a pathetic newspaper.

Hes not wrong that its pathetic, hes wrong that it anything at all to do with them being WC sycophants. And hes far from the only one saying it

They've done the same thing to WC (remember the dirty Pies?), the Wildcats and the Scorchers too

It’s as pathetic and idiotic as the Dirty Pies headline they ran ahead of our elimination final against Collingwood in 2020

For whatever reason the west thinks this type of bravado appeals to readers. Maybe to the peanut gallery but anyone with half a brain sees it for the rubbish it is

There’s no doubt Hardwick will have a few copies pinned to the walls at Optus just as Collingwood did in 2020

Purple team is going great guns, their forward line is top notch so many options ....
Gold Coast have some great talent but will need a lotta luck .
Close game would be good .

Yeh my bad, wasn't AI slop, was lost in translation from an article 12 months ago - official info from the Geelong Club website - but you get the drift, basically a long list of Cat's achievements, and how is it possible?

I know we like to think they are being nefarious but it’s most like that living right next to Melbourne with easy access while providing a lifestyle that appeals to a lot of players, and a cheaper cost of living so they can take a slight discount? Coupled with a lot of stability in management and consistent plucking late picks who turn out to be very good? Oh and being bastards to deal with at the trade table but somehow always seem to get their way with opposition clubs?
Yes, I'm sure there's a reasonable answer to most of it, but is still almost too incredible to be true?

Plenty of those early on were “Home” games. Also won a prelim on the road at footy park in 06. We didn’t choke a home qualification final vs Collingwood in 2018 either. Faced with the same scoreboard as the crows game on Thursday they turned around a 3QT deficit.

As mentioned, it wasn't AI, it was from the Cats Website a year ago, so some was lost in translation by me...but you get the drift of Cats long list of finals achievements, uniquely so?

Fremantle vs Gold Coast will be interesting, probably the two most bipolar clubs in the competition when it comes to results.
Both play far better as underdogs and choke when overly fancied.

In that context, it may play to the Suns' advantage.

Looking forward to seeing if A.Davies gets the job on C.Serong who tends to struggle when tracked by a larger opponent.

Winner will get a beat-up Brisbane that has no forward connection and is struggling to defend against width - both will fancy their chances against the Lions, especially the Suns at the prospect of a local final.

Both those two clubs [Fremantle and Gold Coast] have good recent records against potential Preliminary opponents Collingwood as well.

So Oscars going to Brissy for their elite medical team hey?

I know he is what he is, but who do they actually have down there right now?
Sam Day, Logan Morris? Tough to win a flag with those two as your key forwards.

True,
But also, home finals lost:

‘91 Qualifying final loss to Hawks
‘06 Qualifying final loss to Swans
‘07 semi final loss to Collingwood (the over time game)
‘16 Elimination final losses to Dogs

It’s almost as if it’s ****ing hard to win an away final, no matter where you play. We have also shown we can shit the bed and choke at home (dogs game comes to mind).

My point is, I don’t think it’s a fair statement to say that we are the only non Victoria club that can perform in finals. We often perform poorly at the G in finals (the GF is a bit of a different beast however) and can throw up a stinker at home on the occasion (see Adelaide this weekend).
Brisbane have shown they can perform in finals, Sydney as well.

The deck is heavily stacked against the non vicco clubs come finals time. As I said top four is a must, top 2 and you can be pretty confident in making the GF, outside the four, no chance.
